i just bought an agracat 254 knowing it has engine ( Y385)problems. it show white smoke out the exhaust when i start it and it turns black and bogs down after a few minutes running. i loaded it on a trailer with a small incline yesterday and it gushed oil out of the crankcase vent. i'm into it cheap enough that i can afford to fix it. any help out there?

White from a cold engine is normal. Black and bogging down suggests hydraulic fluid blockage. Overfull crankcase is probably hydraulic fluid from a blown pump seal. First place to look for blockage is right after the pump. There's a short pigtail, then a QD fitting. It's not unusual for that fitting to vibrate loose, or to become blocked with trash. Disconnect/reconnect that fitting to ake sure you get a positive seat. Start the engine and see if the bogging down and black smoke goes away. If not, shut down the engine, remove the fitting altogether, clean both sides and reassemble. Or if you don't want to waste the time, just replace it.

If that stops the bogging down and black smoke, you'll likely need - at a minimum - a new pump seal. But if you find even a hint of a crack in the pump housing, replace the whole thing. Oh, and you'll also need to top up the hydraulic fluid, and to change engine oil/filter.

Could be as simple as the hydraulic lifter control for the TPH being yanked up so high that it is deadheading the pump and bogging the engine. Nevermind how I know this can happen, okay? At least I shut it down before I blew a seal or pump body. :-)
