Hi all, long time eh? I need to borrow a large pull type 15 year old fertilizer spreader from a co-op. Not knowing its size but(It will handle at least 6K) what size tractor would be suggested at min.? What catagory is likely for it to be? Thanks much

If it will hold 3 tons I'd guess it was designed for an ag tractor in the 100 HP range, because back then, compact 4WD models were a little rarer. As for hitch, if it goes on the 3-pt I'd guess a Cat II or III, but maybe it connects to the drawbar. The main issue would be the traction required, and that depends on the tires on the spreader, where it has to travel, and of course the tractor.

Why don't you just ask them? ....

I'd almost bet my last dollar if I hadn't already spent it that their spreaders are a pull type with a PTO shaft to power the spinners on the back. The web in the bottom of the hopper is usually ground driven. There may be bigger three point mounted spreaders but I've never saw one around here. The only mounted ones I'm familliar with are the little 50 and hundred pounders that go on the back of a lawn mower.
