hi i have a farm pro 2420 if your sitting on the seat and look down there is a a screw valve it just started leaking. i think i read in some forms its a flow valve and if i tighten it so it stops leaking it binds the hydrolics.Any suggestions?Or any Idea what i should do ?

That's the flow control valve, it regulates how fast the rear lift drops. And it's a needle valve, so the answer depends upon where it's leaking. See the diagram below If it's leaking under the knob (#1), it's likely either a dirty valve seat (beneath #7) or a bad O-ring (#5). If it's leaking elsewhere, please describe. Caution; remove set screw (#8) before turning out the valve. You may have to scrape away dirt and/or paint to actually find it. Then don't lose it, it's pretty small.

Yes, the set screw is there so vibration won't cause it to accidentally screw out.

As to the filtration, there's no consistency. Some have one or the other, some have both. In some cases it depends upon which line was cut for the spin-on. If it's on the return side, you'd still need a suction strainer in the sump. If it's on the supply side, the spin-on IS the suction filter. Also; take care when you buy spin-on replacements. If yours is on the supply side, it's got to be coarse as not to impede flow to the pump. Buy in the 120-140 micron range. So technically that's still a screen, albeit inside a can. If yours is on the return side, you can buy a regular filter, somewhere in the 10-30 micron range.

Spin-on models still don't like water either, but don't self-destruct as quickly as the in-tank versions when wet.

Then what you have is the external equivalent of the in-tank suction screen, which should probably be changed at least once a year. Easiest way is simply to buy OEM replacements. If that's not possible, you must select an aftermarket replacement on the basis of
a. thread diameter
b. thread count
c. sealing ring diameter
d. micron rating (coarse, as stated above)

What I can't tell you from afar - is whether or not your filter head is equipped with a bypass valve. On that count, it might not hurt to also ensure that the replacement spin-on itself is equipped with its own bypass valve. One more argument in favor of simply buying OE replacements

Nope. If you've removed the 3-bolt flange completely - and nothing but a suction tube came out - then your external spin on is the only filtration. And since it's on the suction side, technically it's an external suction strainer - as opposed to a "hydraulic filter". So when you shop for your yearly replacement, that's what you need to buy; a spin-on suction strainer.
