I would appreciate some help in figuring out the problem with my Dk45. It is an older model that i bought used. It has an 8 speed hi-lo transmission. This tractor works great except for one problem. In high range fourth gear only, the shuttle will kick out of forward travel and go to neutral. Would or could this be a linkage problem, a fork problem, or a more internal transmission problem?
Advise is greatly appriciated

Tedstar,

I've never dug into a Kioti transmission, but for the most part all manual transmissions are very similar in nature.

There's a sliding gear that mates up with a corresponding gear on the counter shaft. 4th gear would likely be located near the transmission case. If this is an older tractor, it's possible that you have a buildup of gunk, combined with some metal shavings, preventing you from making full contact with forth gear.

You might want to try flushing the transmission with some mineral oil, or kerosene. Drain about half of the old oil. Put the plug back in and then top it off with Kerosene, or mineral oil. Run the tractor around the yard for about an hour, putting it through its paces. Shift the gears frequently. Put it in reverse several times.

Don't put the tractor to work when the transmission oil is thinned out in this fashion. Never pull a plow with it, or move a pile of gravel, until you get the proper fluid back in the tranmission.

Let the transmission sit overnight. The mineral oil will slowly disolve any sludge that was pushed up against the side of the tranmsission case.

Take the tractor out for another spin the next morning. If the problem went away, simply drain the diluted oil and replace with the proper gear oil. If the problem still exists, at least the transmission will be much cleaner when you tear into it.

Please get back to us to let us know what you found.

Joel ....
