New to me Gator HPX with 20 hp Kawasaki gas engine.
Don't know how long it's been sitting, but was told by dealer that it runs although when I went to look at it the starter solenoid was broken due to over tightening one of the posts,so it wouldn't start.

I fixed the solenoid on the starer, now it turns over but does not crank, but will backfire out the muffler. The plugs are firing, fuel pump is working, but has yet to start.

That is what I was afraid some one was going to say.
I will get one ordered tomorrow,I sure hope that fixes it.

Next question: my gator is showing 185.3 hours. Do the hour meters roll over at 1k hrs or would it say 1185.3? ....

I know the older ones went to 9999.9 and I seriously doubt if they would change the format on them. I'd say your Gator has 185 hours on it. ....

Got my new igniter today and put it on and she cranked right up. Gatoraider knows his stuff.

It does seem to be burning a little oil on the back cylinder but I think I can live with that for a while . It does need new spark plugs in it and NGK BPR2ES is what is in it. I went to a parts store and asked for CJ14's and they gave me Champion 5861 and they aren't as long. Should I use them anyway or what plugs should I get and what should the gap be set on ? ....

CJ14 plugs fit the old style head on a 6x4. On the GS-11 series motor and newer they changed the heads and use a long reach plug. All HPXs and XUVs require the longer plug. Ask your parts man to cross a BPR2ES, I think it's a RJ18Y Champion, but don't hold me to that. ....
