I have a 1997 Ford Ranger. Great little truck, but I have an electrical proble. When I turn on the the right turn signal it works fine until I step on the break and then the blinker stops blinking and the light stays on but does not blink. Also if I step on the brake with the signal off the the right signal light comes on, but doesn't blink. Can anyone point me in the right direction. I'm thinking perhaps a wire shorting out somewhere.

Don't know how that year Ranger is wired, but it sounds like a simple relay problem. Some vehicles have two relays; a two prong for the flashers and a three prong for the directionals. Some have may one relay do both jobs. Get into your manual and under the dash, figure out what you have and which one to replace.

Thanks I'll take a look, but how does the brake come into play in this situation? ....

You don't say so, but if you have a trailer wiring harness on the truck I'd start there.

It sounds like there is voltage getting back & forth between the signal & brake light circuits.

I've seen things like that happen when the 3 light to 2 light trailer wiring converters go bad.

Best of luck. ....

Again, I don't have a 1997 Ranger wiring diagram. But typically relays are between the brake pedal switch and the brake lights. Your brake light bulbs function as turn signal bulbs - right? Do you know if your relay(s) are resistance type? or electronic?
