I have decided to go with the Mahindra 4530, no loader, industrial tires. I will be getting a 6' Bush Hog 286 cutter, 6' Bush Hog SBX 720 box, and a 6' Howse HT16022 disc. The final selling price the dealer quoted me is $19,200. I went through my own bank for pre-approval and the amount is negotiable being that the papers aren't drawn up yet. I am going Friday to sign the papers but need to know a few things first.

1. Is it normal to haggle with the dealer over final price?
2. Should I try to talk the dealer down now or when I sit down with him to sign?
3. If he won't budge off of the price, can I ask him to throw in extras, such as a boom pole or other less valuable equipment?
4. Is there anything else I need to know, other than the obvious - warranty, service, parts, etc., before signing?

I know dealers are in it to make money, and I am not trying to take that away, but there should be room for negotiating, right??

Not having that makes price book to compare with I looked at the L-4400 which is Kubota's comparable model although it does have a few extra ponies under the hood. I'd be asking for some perks like first PM or first major one done on the house or at least the filters and oil they recommend. Do you have enough front weight to counter balance the three point hitch disc? Do they charge for pick-up and delivery while under warrantee, that could be a good perk! ....

I would phone another Malhindra dealer to keep him honest and get at least a second quote.
You have there is nothing wrong with the quality of the equipment you have chosen but I would itemize them for comparison and insurance if nothing else. ....

I dont know about throwing things in that should be part of the final deal and this is out the door price. You seem to have made up your mind on which unit you want this will cut down on you using other dealers as leverage. When I bought my tractor it was cut and dry out the door price. Does your dealer have an on site mechanic, parts, do you know any one that has dealings with this guy.
1. Haggle for price - I would maybe let him know you are looking around and name some other dealers.
2. Its your money i would be talking from day one.
3. Throw in whatever, you still have the money, and he wants it what is he willing to do for it. This guy is a buisness man and I dont think he will lose money.
4 Warranty, service, parts, mechanic, repair facility, fluids (oils, coolant, lubs etc)
I would negotiate to the end my money does not come easy. Make sure of after the deal service if it is in writing that is great. How long has this dealer been in business. ....

Thanks guys for the advice. I just got off the phone with my bank and the dealer and I have to say I made out pretty good. I got the interest rate dropped from 10% to 8.5%, which surprised me that the interest rate was even negotiable. I guess it had something to do with it being my personal bank and my house, land, and other loans have been solely with them. The dealer was set on his price, which I figured, so I asked him to throw in a boom pole, the first break-in oil and filter change, and a few hats, which he did. I am happy now. I am responsible for getting the equipment back to the shop for warranty services though, mostly due to liability reasons being that they have to use an independent person to haul it. The only other thing I think I am going to regret is not getting the FEL, but I can live without it due to it would increase my payments by $142/mth.

This site is great! I really appreciate the quick responses and straight forward feed back. Keep up the good work! ....
