The Deere manual says to grease the u-joints on the PTO shaft b/w the tractor and RFM every 8 hours. I just purchased my tractor and managed to figure out how to pull off the plastic housing (not too hard) and get it back on (much more difficult) for the first time so I could access the grease fittings on at least what I refer to as u-joints. The guy who dropped the tractor off didn't know what control did what (couldn't tell the oil fill plug from the oil dipstick and no-body explained anything about maintenance to me so I'm looking at a manual that doesn't really match 100% with the configuration of the hardware. The manual says to greaes these (what I refer to as u-joints) every 8 hours. It seems a little excessive to me at least to have to lube something every 8 hours. I was wondering if everyone follows through on the lube specs in the maunual?

I grease my MMM spindles every other use and the mid pto shaft joints about every 10 hours. Grease is cheap insurance. ....

I tend to overgrease. Anything that does not have seals gets plenty. The spindles are greased each mowing along with the caster wheels and swivels. The PTO shaft is 2-3 times a year.
Grease is cheap. Spindles for the Landpride are Pricey at $195.00. Other parts are pricey and sometimes very difficult to R&R if they have not been lubed regular. ....

Thanks for the sound advice. The sales rep told me nobody follow the lube recommendations in the manual. ....
