I just bought a Nortrak 254 tractor. It sure beats my Kubota L210. It has the FEL on it also. I want to add a top link and side adjustment. Which spool valve do I need and where to I hook into the hydraulics at. Is the system sufficient to handle two more cyliders. They are not actually used very much and not at the same time as the FEL.

Please no long posts as I just joined and have not decided to pay yet for the long messages.

I was looking at that. I just emailed them for prices and shipping info. I was looking more to purchase the pieces myself and install on tractor. More satifaction and more learning. I just need education on valves and where to obtain pressure and return on my tractor.

The valve body in the middle of the cylinder is a double pilot operated check valve. This insures exact placement positioning of the cylinder. This means that any bleed by from the valve less than 500 psi will be contained and the position will be held. Without the valve you will constantly be readjusting the cylinders position because every valve has a certain amount of bleed by and drift. ....

The easiest way to know what top link and side link you need it to measure what you currently have. Match the retracted length of the 3 point members and match the retracted length of the hydraulic cylinder. ....

I went ahead and upgraded so I can see all of the posts.

How do I know which vavle to buy. I want a 3 valve assemply with a flow beyond to complete the loop. But do I want open center or closed center? I an assuming I want return to center on the vavles. I need the cylinders with the check vavles on them, and the hoses. I can make my own mount for the controls.

So many questions and not enough answeres, but I will keep asking

Ron ....

Hi Ken, Thanks for asking.

10 days ago the dealer and Gearmore agreed to replace/repair the problem parts and the dealer agreed to modify the top link attachment points to prevent it happening again.

That leaves two other problems. One is that 7,200 foot pass between here and there and the other is this WEATHER.

I-80 has been posted as requiring mandatory chains all week. I am hoping the plows in California can catch up today so I can sneak over there this afternoon before the next series of storms comes in..... ....

Hey, I think we have a new Board record here. Two sales pitches/spams in the same thread.

As for the pilot valve preventing leak-down I don't buy that. In my experience the seals in the cylinder will leak LONG before the seals in the valve will. On my own machine I use a standard 3" cylinder as a toplink and it holds my 1,000 pound boxblade up just fine, I have had it in the air for many hours at a time without any noticeable movement in the cylinder.

Best of luck. ....

Also, what is a float positin? Is this a functin of the vavle? Is it something I want or need on the toplink.

Someone really should do a how-to article and post it.

I'll jump in. Float position is a fourth position on the spool valve, usually with detent. Allows fluid to "float" back and forth between cylinder ports, or no hydraulic pressure in the cylinder. Used mostly in grading operations, sometimes usefull for top link. See previous comments on valves and cylinders leak bys. Open center or closed center depends on the hydraulic system on your tractor. Sounds like you are using a power beyond circuit, you will need an open center valve assembly, with a power beyond port at the outlet end of the valve assembly. If you plan to add spools, you will want to get a stackable valve assembly. This would allow you to add spools or change the type of spools you have if you decide you want something different later. ....

Actually if you READ my post I said I use a standard cylinder, NOT a tie-rod cylinder and I have no leak-down with it, even when my 1,000 pound box-blade is hanging from it.

If the control valve allows leak-down then there is a problem and it should be fixed.

The cylinder I used was rated for 3,000 psi, it is a 3" x 20" and was made in the good ole' US of A ... and it cost me about $125 complete with lines and quick couplers. Any hydraulics shop will make you one up if you're unsure about doing it yourself.

Best of luck.

I talked to Prince Direct today. They gave me the part numbers I needed. They also directed me to a page that has the hydraulic circuit. Here it is
http://www.princehyd.com/products/pdf_files/SV_Parts_Manual.pdf
Go to page 27. It sure helped me.

Ironpeddler,
I don't see the length of the side link ( tilt cylinder) from pin to pin listed on the website.
Do you happen to know what they are ?
Thanks ....
