I believe you'll find the top 10 depends on what size tractor you're talking about. ....

I'm interested in the +/- 50 H.P. range. I have been told
that Belarus is the Largest manufacter. Can you believe that? ....

Belarus does not make tractors. They are a marketing company for factories like MTZ,LTZ,VTZ,Kirovets,etc....Before the fall of the USSR it was claimed Belarus sold 1 million tractors a year. Today they are lucky to sell 20,000 a year. Under 50 hp the #1 brand would be Mahindra. For Ag-tractors #1 is either MF or NH depending on the time of year the tally is taken. Deere is #3,CIH is 4th,and Valtra is 5th. ....

Just understand that the top ranking tractor is not necessarily the best tractor. Their is a balance or happy medium between cost and quality. ....

The AGCO conglomerate claims top prize in this area now. By owning AGCO and Massey, it holds the title internationally. As far as the Challenger compacts go(Agco spinoff partnered with CAT) they are nothing new that hasn't been sold by massey and agco. They are iseki and the basic tractors have been around 20 years here starting with the Oliver based White tractor line before Agco got their grubby hands on them. Also Deuta allis used them before the transformation to Allis-Gleaner Corporation. Massey as well. Hmm. kinda funny that they all ended up under the same roof anyway. ....

Ahhh...Mark I think you have it wrong if you're going on a Corporation basis. CNH outsells Agco in the tractor arena. Also you'll find with in Agco,Fendt outsells Agco. DA never sold Iseki CUTs theirs came from Hinomoto,as did the early MF offerings. ....

I started this discussion hoping that somewhere someone would mention the Landini tractors. I'm about to trade in my
little long 260c that I haave been well pleased with and buy a 5860 Landini. Somewhere in this tractor ranking discussion I was hoping to find out about Landini. They must be somewhat new to the U.S. I have found 1 dealer that has been selling them for about 12 years. ....

Besides the price, you are purchasing an excellent tractor. They have been in the U.S. now in the neighborhood of 20 years or so. Although they have had spotty success, they are of a quality and finish above the majors. As far as price, their are a lot better tractors out there for lower prices with better dealer coverage. Until recently, they made specialty models for Massey. On a personal side, I have met with some of the management of Landini and found them quite arrogant and distasteful to talk to. The Italians I have met in other areas were not so. ....

As far as the rankings, it can be looked at other ways. I believe that AGCO still holds the spot as the largest corporation, counting their ownership of so many ag related companies. ....

Mark I think I,m getting a pretty good deal in this trade.
I,m getting the 5860 for 14500 and then getting a trade-in
of 3500 on my little Long. I would like to know your opinion
about this deal and which tractors might be a better buy. ....

What do you want to do with it? If your long served you well, then I suspect that you may look toward an Indian built tractor. Long currently has the farm trac models descending from the old Ford line from India. Mahindra, a descendent of the old IH company is manufacturing a decent tractor from India. Tafe is a Massey made in India. And last Eicher,(my favorite because well, I rep for them) is an extremely good little tractor from India. But if 4wd is what you want, look to the Koreans through about 45 HP. Such as Branson, Mahindra, Long, and Tafe all have models from Korea. What is your HP demand? ....

Rookie,

That Landini is pretty close to what was the Massey 254,only one series newer if it is the DT version. If so that sounds like a very good price. Good basic no frills tractors. ....

I'm getting a +/- 50 hp> I have 73 acres of plantation pinetrees and will be doing a lot of heavy duty bush hogging and some logging work and misc. dirt moving and landscaping. My yard alone is about 4 acres. I am limited to wheelbase width due to the width of the row's that the pinetrees are planted in or I would get a larger tractor.
Plus I have to be able to move the tractor on a trailer to be able to do work at my deer camp. ....

Look at the Eicher 485, is only 13,400 full list with 51 hp. And there are dealers in MS. But I don't know how close. The other ones are close in price as well. ....
