Just hit 50 hours on my BX 23 yesterday.
Picked up the oil fluid and filters today.
Cost me $57.42 tax included. Was that reasonable or within the going rate?
Hope to get em changed tomorrow.
Any good tips for doing the first 50 hour service.

They cover it pretty good in the book. Don't think it should take but an hour or so to get thru the job. ....

Can the engine oil and filter be changed without taking off the 60'' MMM?

Can I change the fluids and filters without puting the tractor up on blocks?

You do not have to remove the hoe.
Don't have a mower so do not know.
You do not need to raise it.
Many people find it easier to clean the hydrolic screen if you remove the wheel.
The oil filter can be hard if you do not have one of the wrenches that fit on the end. I had no luck finding one the correct size and now use a strap wrench. ....

==================
I'm not sure I found the hydraulic screen.
Is it at the bottom rear left corner of the transmission?
Is the suction tube it goes in, the metal tube that runs up the left side of the back end of the transmission?
Does the screen take a pretty large # 26 metric wrench to remove?

Got the oil and transmission fluid changed today.
One of the biggest challenges for me was rounding up the tools I needed to do the job.

I spent 3 days running to every place in town to find them.

Went good today but I am stumped about one thing.
After puting in the amounts specified in the manual for the engine and the tranny the engine oil is only up to the first mark on the dipstick.
The Super UDT shows little if any on the tranny dipstick.
How Can This Be? ? ?

Tractor oil sumps seem to be only guesstimates. My 4100 said 2.6 quarts but the dipstick showed full at 1.9 quarts.

Run everything for a few minutes to make sure all the filters are filled and then add a 8 ounces at a time until the dipstick reads right.

1*How can they miss it so far?
You would think they would know how much Oil and UDT they are putting in the tractors before they ship them out.
2*I did that.
I used 96 ounces of Oil which is 12.8 ounces more than the manual calls for.The Oil is now half way between the add and full marks.
I used 352 ounces of Super UDT.That's 6.4 more ounces than the book says and it still doesn't even show up on the dipstick.

---------------------------------
But if you know how much things hold it eliminates the pump check. pump check pump check, pump check hassle.
Also if you happen to overfill you get to play the drain some out and start the pump check cycle all over again game.

I know on my trucks they hold 5 quarts.
When i change oil I dump in 5 quarts start er up run for 5 min. check for leaks shut her off an check the oil.
It's always right where it should be every time.

=========================
After looking all over town I found 2 different filter wrenches that fit on the end.
I bought them both at an AUTO ZONE Auto Parts Store.
Do you have one in your area.
One of them fits only filters with the notched end .
The other one is for filters that have the plain smothe round end.
I bought types because KUBOTA is using both types of filters.
Beats a strap strap wrench 7 ways from sunday especially on the engine oil filter.
If you can't find them in your area let me know and I will pick them up here and mail them to you if I can.

AutoZone was the last place I looked for them.
Could be they were out of them at the time you tried.
They might have some in by now.
IF they don't have them yet see if they can get them in for you .
I've found them pretty good at getting something they were out of in prettly shorty for me.

I picked up 2 more quarts of Oil and Super UDT at the Dealer today.

They told me the 2.6 Qt. for engine oil.listed in the manual was quite a bit off.

They also said the 2.7 Gal for the UDT could be off some and was for the transmission housing only and did not inclued the hoses for the FEL and BH. ....
