I am buying a bx2200 and trying to decide which deck is best. Currently trying to sell my b8200E with 60". I finish mow around two acres with about 15 Oaks scattered on it. Other than the 1 guage difference in the shell and 6" width, are there any advantages of one over the other for this model? Thanks

The 60 extends further from the tractor and it is my recommendation to use the largest deck and the smallest tractor! The 54 is tight to the tractor and makes trimming harder. ....

If you think about it, the difference between 54” and 60”, is only 3” each side. The affect of the extra deck width on the agility of the machine is negligible. However, you’ll appreciate the extra 10 percent width, when cutting 2 acres. ....

Let me put a different twist on what Art said:

The rear wheels are 47" wide and the small deck is 54" wide.

That only gives you about three inches of mower deck sticking out on each side of the tractor.

That would make it harder to trim around trees when compared to the 60" deck. ....

I guess, unless you are trying to go between two trees that are only 59” apart, or you have a trailer that is too narrow for the 60” deck, there seem to be more advantage to a larger deck than disadvantages. ....

Thanks for those that responded. The 60" I have now never has really gotten in the way as long as I am careful. The BX2200 will be 100% more nimble than the 8200, so I think maybe the 60" might work. Only thing is I'm not used to having a chute on the deck, so will have to be careful.

I have a BX2200 with the 54,as well as a bagger. I mow about 4 acres with it in a big hurry. My dealer no longer recommends the 60 along with the bagger. My land has some tight spots which make the narrower unit easier to use. My neighbor has the same setup with the 60 and curses loudly whenever he takes the deck off..its a much tighter fit between the wheels. No problem with the 54. ....

Ambernstein, Thanks for the advise. I am going to be purchasing a BX 2230 shortly with the bagger. Sounds like the right choice. is the 54" MMM. I also have some tight spots. I don't live to far from you I live in Hopkinton.
Any other tips or lessons learned?? Thanks. ....

The Kubota bagger is awesome, especially for picking up leaves. I moved up from a 100 series Deere, with 38"deck and power flo. Huge improvement, especially on a large lot. I can move lots of snow with the FEL. I've got a rear blade set to scrape off what spills over the loader. As other people have pointed out, lights on the ROPS when plowing are a good idea. BTW, the loader is an absolute joy. ....

How easy are these decks to remove? I know the one on my B8200 is not easy and is real heavy for one person to deal with. Is the 54" that much easier as stated previously because of 6" less width?

I've installed my 54 once and removed it once. No problems, including attaching drive shaft. It is heavy and took two of us to move to storage area. ....

Are you taking the time to turn the wheels to the side so they just roll out? ....

For sure. We had to move the sucker over a door sill into another room. By turning one set of wheels 90 degrees we could roll it in two directions, but had to lift it anyway. ....

I have a 2230 with 54" deck and bagger. Deck jumps off and on almost by itself, silly easy and quick. The bagger however can be a bit of a pain in the a*s. Check the pics below.

Hope to update website soon! ....

Sounds like the 54" is easy enough to remove and install. How about someone with the 60"? Is it that much harder to remove and install than the 54". Is the 60" wider from front to rear that would make it more difficult?

I have the 60 mmm with the bagger for my bx22. It is my understanding the 60 mmm msy give slightly better cut due to the self balancing linkage. However I have no knowledge of how the 54 mmm cuts.

I have no problems removing and installing th deck (done it way to many times). Now installing the bagger, thats another story. I only use mine for leaves, so I dont have alot of pratice with it. ....

Thanks for everyone's input. I have decided to go with the 60". My dealer sells mostly the 60" for the tractor and hasn't had any complaints. Hope this one lasts as long as the one on my B8200.

The 54 inch mmm cuts beautifully...I use it all the time even with the fel attached. Here's a stupid question...How do you release the tension on the mower belts for winter storage? ....
