I have a B7800 FEL,MMM 85 hours. The engine is stalling when the tractor is moving either forward or backward. I can keep it from dying if I push the clutch in. It will idle at any RPM while sitting still and not die. It seems to stall quicker if I am going in reverse. I can travel forward a longer period before it stalls. Any ideas or help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance!

Any smoke? Often these problems are filters, air or fuel, or bad/contaminated fuel. Look for water in the glass fuel bowl. ....

No, the parking brake is not set. I have driven in the past with it on, however it did not stall. This was only in low and medium speeds, never High. ....

Fuel can be stale right from the station. It really sounds like fuel or air starvation. Another possibility is loose material in the tank interfering with the fuel pickup. I add stabil to fuel cans before filling them up, then use a water filtering funnel when filling the tank, then add power service to the tank. Don't want any algae getting started. ....

As Ken says it definately could be dirt in the tank and filter. It would have to come from the station with the low house on the tractor.
The timing could be out also but this is not likely unless it has been bumped recently.
Both these would sound like missing engine.
It could also be something binding in the transmission or brakes not releasing. In this case you will hear the engine begin to labour. ....

I think Art is on the right track, if it was an obstruction, dirt, etc., causing to starve for fuel, there would be no black smoke after stepping on the clutch.

It sounds more like the engine is being lugged into a stall.

Best of luck.

Stall while driving in Low or Medium with or without MMM PTO running. It does not sputter or hesitate, just a complete stall (unless clutch is engaged). Its as if the key is being turned off. The puff of black smoke comes when I engage the clutch so it won't die. ....

The puff of black smoke is telling.

Black smoke from a diesel is a sure sign it's working hard and running rich.

Does the tractor stall no matter how slowly you step down on the pedal, or regardless of how far down, or not, you push on the pedal?

It's beginning to sound like the relief valve is not working, or there is a blockage somewhere and so anything beyond neutral is more pressure than it can take.

Best of luck. ....

From the description it could also be just a loose wire or short on the fuel soleniod. It shuts down and sputters and then when the clutch is depressed before it winds down it catches back up. This would not explain the puff of smoke unless you get extra fuel when it opens back up.
It certainly sounds like the tractor's transmission is binding up somehow. ....
