I broke this out from another thread so this topic can be found more easily.

JD sells a kit that contains parts that are useful for protecting the bottom side of JD 4210/4310/4410 tractors. They probably sell kits for other 10 series tractors but my research covers only the mid-frame machines.

The part number of the kit is LVB-25453 and it's called a Rental Upgrade Kit. This kit includes Left & Right skid plates, Suction screen guard, high-range speed lockout, electronic switch closeouts, and all mounting hardware. My dealer quoted me $375 for the kit but others have reported buying it for closer to $300.

The high-range speed lockout and electronic switch closeouts are probably useless for private owners, but the other stuff is useful if you do brush hogging in heavy brush.

The skid plates are made from 1/4" steel and the suction screen guard is closer to 1/2". Supposedly access to the suction filter and screen is still easy with the plates installed, and all mounting is done via existing holes so no drilling is required. All parts mount above drawbar height so ground clearance should not be reduced.

Chief, are you planning to order this kit? If so I'll be interested in how it all works out for you. I'm undecided on it right now. ....

On the canadian JD parts, it is $492 (CDN). Note that the weight of the package is 198 lbs. Must be pretty hefty protection.

Mark, they don't list it in the tractor online parts manual for yours or my tractor so I emailed them the request. I will pass along the info. as soon as I get a reply. It is listed as a "guard kit" but nothing comes up when I did the word search and tried playing with the part # sequence. ....

Maybe I don't know how to use JDParts right but I find it sort of useless if you don't already know the part number you're looking for. I got this info from my dealer but even with the part number the info provided by JDParts is nearly useless. ....

It would be interesting to see how they rigged up the skid plates so as not to interfere with MMM's, backhoe sub-frame mounts, front mounted pto operations, oil changes and the like. ....

I never asked about that stuff since I don't have a backhoe or MMM. If Chief buys these he can be a guinea pig, er, tester since he at least has a MMM. ....

Mark, have you tried using the online parts catalog? It shows all of the item pictures and breaks it down into parts #'s. Alot like the aircraft parts manuals in the Army. I guess I have been so accustomed to the Army stuff, now that you mention it, I could see how this system could be a bit trying. ;-) I click on the online parts catalog, then click on model search and type in your model #, then click on the "2917 - 4115 COMPACT UTILITY TRACTOR", then you have your choice between alphabetical, pictorial, sectional, or part index selections to look up parts. ....

Chief, does the online parts catalog actually work for you? When I click it it does nothing, and that's on two different computers. ....

Yes it works fine for me. I had to disable the pop up blocker features on my browser to make it work though. Might be why yours does not work. ....

It won't even let me in.

When I try the forgotten password feature it asks me where I was born.

When I tell it when I was born it says I am wrong, try again and we go into an endless loop.

It is one screwed up system. ....
