Sometimes I might have my tractor parked on my hunt club property, where it won't be under a shed to protect it from the rain. Therefore, I would like to install one of those little "flapper valves" on the top of my exhaust pipe to keep rainwater from getting down the exhaust pipe. The pipe is about 1.5" dia, but I will measure it to be certain. Anybody know who sells these? How much do they cost? Thanks!Keith

I don't have an exact price, but they're probably no more than $750 from the dealer (sarcasm intended). What I've seen the old timers do is take a tin can (after eating the contents) and put it on top of the pipe to keep the rain out. Not as pretty but a heck of alot cheaper. Maybe you could paint the can green or blue or whatever that other color is. ....

Yaeh, I have seen folks simply put a can on top of the exhaust pipe. The problem is that you HAVE to remember to do that. If you don't well.... That's why I asked for info for a flapper valve. With that, you don't have to remember. Keith ....

So, why don't the dealers cover the exhaust pipes on the tractors on their lots? Between the JD dealer, Kubota dealer, etc, I must drive by 50 compact deisels parked outside all the time with no flapper or tin can... ....

I think if you will look closer, you will notice that most tractors have the exhaust pipe opening made (or bent) such that the opening is angled vertically. This helps to prevent too much water from getting in the pipe. I don't know if any of the manufacturers make their new tractors with a pipe that is cut off level (or horizontal if you will), but it's not a good idea imho. The problem with mine is that the previous owner cut the pipe about a foot shorter so it wouldn't hit (or catch) so many limbs, and of course he cut it off perfectly horiziontal. I guess a little rain in the exhaust pipe wouldn't hurt but if you had a heavy rain, and then you tried to crank it up with a lot of water in the exhaust... A friend has a Ford 2000 and if he doesn't put a tin can over the pipe before a rain, the rainwater in the exhaust makes it harder to crank. I just think it is better to not let any water get in it at all.Thanks.Keith ....

Betcha a local muffler shop would only charge a few bucks to put a quick bend in the end of the pipe, so it would have it's original bend with angle cut. ....

They can be had at most tractor dealerships and farm supply stores, like Central Tractor, etc. Call ahead first, as some outfits might have to order it. When I was mail ordering tractor parts, you could get them for under $5.00. Be sure you know your exhaust pipe diameter, as I recall there were a couple of sizes. Lee ....

rgr that, they do have the angle with the vertical cut... I think this helps prevent debris (and water) from entering, but I think the main purpose is to direct the exhausht away from the operator.I actually added a taller exhaust pipe to my 1050 so that I breath even less exhaust... but I don't have many trees, and my ROPS is still taller than the exhaust.I wonder what effect water has on the turbocharger? that is connected to the exhaust system... ....

The JD 70 series, and the vertical exhaust option on the 4000 series has an insulated 'double walled' exhaust pipe.About half way down the pipe there is a drain hole that drains all entering rain. Check for this feature, and you will not need a flapper.Mark ....

Is an '81 750 in the "70" series? If, then I don't need to do anything. Either way, I will check to see if there is a drain hole. Thanks.Keith ....

I forgot to add, I grew up using a tin can for the exhaust, it works great, but if you forget to remove it, the can flies pretty high when you start the tractor. :) ....
