I just went on Monday to the dealer to drive the 790 and 4400 w/ syncro shift. I liked the 790, nice feeling transmission and it just felt like a real tractor. The price quote for the 790 w/ a 430 loader 73" bucket, R4 tires, no balast box or nose guard, are you ready for this? $20,000 +/-.

So, the next question is; Where are you getting this tractor? ....

I'm purchasing it from a local JD dealer in OH.
I was quoted 14,227 for a 790 4wd w/ loader from another JD dealer.

These were both dealers that have alot of large tractor volume (130hp +) so my guess if that they get some decent discounts on the 'small stuff'.

I had priced the same config from a lawn and garden JD dealer ~ 16,000.

You can get a 430 loader on a 790?
I thought the 430 was only for the 4000 series? ....

The salesman didn't know anything about these tractors. He was reading from the book and he said it took a 430 loader. I think you're right about it using the 70 loader. You should check out the bucket width though, I believe the tractor is 71" wide and a 61" bucket is not going to cover the tire tracks. ....

The 790 takes a model 70 loader. With R4's, the tractor is 60" wide and, as such, the 60" bucket does cover its tracks.

There is no 71" bucket available for the 790 (as far as I know). If you are quoted 20k for that setup, I would run for the hills. I paid $14,000 w/o tax for the same setup with a model 70 loader and 60" bucket. ....

Bucket options: 48, 54 and 60-inch for the model 70 loader.

Is the 790 a better deal than the Kubota L3000 with loader for 15,999? ....

Stephen, that price sounds more like a 4400HST with 430 loader and R4s, not a 790. I'd try a different dealer for sure. ....

Yea, I'd like to keep it local but this is an insult. Like I said before, he really didn't know his PTO from a hole in the ground. I'll look into it more seriously when I sell my 1050. I know the 1050 is a great gear tractor but I don't need the backhoe anymore and it would be a shame to break it up. ....

It sounds like your dealer quoted you a 990. It's the big brother to the 790 and does take the 430 loader. Price sounds about right too. Nice tractor if that's what you want, though you might want to consider a different salesperson/dealer. ....

Yes Rob, you are right. My bad, I was quoted for a 990. So I must, (gulp) apologize for my previous comments about the salesman. That price was also with tax. ....
