Does this only happen to me! I did it twice this morning! I mostly do it when I am snowblowing with my 3ph and looking backwards all the time, though I sometimes hit it when I am mowing. I was thinking about making a "shield type thing" to keep my knee from hitting it? Any ideas? Or, I actually just need a bigger tractor!

Sure, sounds like a bigger tractor with snowblower on the front and a cab.
This could be very rough on the knee cap, which would lead to knee surgery. Need a better excuse? :) ....

Don't feel like the only one. I have a B2400, and always hit the switch to turn the flashers on. So I took the fuse out. Don't think you could solve your problem that easy.

Isn't modern technology grand. The older tractors have a manual cut of valve that turns the fuel off to stop the tractor. You can start the tractor and then take the key out.
A few minutes with the schematics You could probably determine where the fuel solenoid connected into the key and then make a separate toggle switch. Unfortunately it might also dissable some other safety feature. Might provide you with a little theft security too though, if you hid it well.

I word of caution- You might want to check your key from time to time. I broke one off inside the switch once, all most had to get as new swicth. It a BEAR to get out. ....

Maybe a different seat. One that swivels like on a backhoe might let you turn to the side without rotating your body, which pushes you knees closer to the console. Might work, but there may be safety issues if a seat was able to swivel all the time.

Actually I think it does work. At least I'm sitting here in my swivel office chair and tried it. To turn without swiveling the chair, you have to move one hip toward the front of the chair-- there might be a safety thing though.

Ahhhhh! The box with piano hinge sounds like the trick. I have a connection with a defense contractor that uses them to cover trigger switches, the red ones like airplanes have. The hard part is going to be finding one that is large enough to cover the key. May end up fabing something custom? Thanks for the feedback, glad I'm not the only one!

The broken or hit key problem has been around longer than the compact tractor has. I'll joke about it going along with shift levers up your pant leg and face falls off the tractor. I've seen many types of shields built over the years, be sure that what you build won't leave your knees bruised. Some times they can be relocated around to the side of the dash and you can find small plastic caps to cover the hole. That way it is level and won't bother you again, the wiring harness normally can handle the difference in length. ....

I haven't had that problem on my 7234 "yet" but now that you told us about it I expect we'll all start hitting it now! I don't have much experience with other tractors but I've always felt the 'cockpit' area of the Cub wasn't big enough and I've wondered if other compacts had the same problem. Art White tells about falling off the tractor....I haven't fallen yet but when I plow snow and get off my Cub I always seem to be catching the shift, (good sized lever that sticks up from the left side)with the bottom of my jacket. I've thought like Art said someday I'm going to catch the shift and either fall or kick it back into gear at which point I'd be laying on the ground about the time the 41 X 14 X 20 tires run over me.... ....

Suckowe,

I knew you'd jinx us! When I was out plowing from the last storm, 2/18, I turned around to check behind me and hit the ignition switch. Obviously killing the engine leaving me wondering, "Wha' happened". By the way I'm in Raymond where in ME are you?

With only a moderate amount of gymnastic skills you should be able to unscrew the ignition switch from behind and flip it 180 degrees so that the little "hangy - downy" thing is a "Sticky - uppey" thingy instead....

I hope that makes sense to somebody, our (larger) operators have been doing it for a while with our Kubotas, it seems to work well, it just takes a little getting used to putting the key in upside-down.

Best of luck. ....

Alrite! That's one of those "Damn, why didn't I think of that?" ideas. I suppose before the summer's over I'm going to have to get a new key. Seriously, this is why I was looking for a good Cub Cadet forum. I'm very proud of Lucy, bought her to help me around here because I can get along with having a machine (don't tell her I called her that) at my beck and call easier than I can deal with hiring help. ....
