32) What is a good Kubota for small orchards?
sc - any of the Grande Ls (L3010 - L4310)
3i assume wheel base is of some importance, as well as turning ability on a grade.
sc - Yes
3) Lots of talk about 4310 but little on M4700, which is pitched by Kubota as best all around small ag/orchard/landscaping tractor.
sc L4310 , user friendly -- designed for various utility task as well as a good performer in the ag sector.
Is this a new model?
sc - "the Grande L family of tractors started in '93/'94
The L4310 replaced it's twin brother L4200 in '99
Is there any reason other than price to avoid low M series and go with high end L series?
sc - trans.(HST,DT,GST) options, user friendliness, on/off made easier for us old folks, cab options, tight turns, hands free operation for ORCHARD SPRAYING with WAND duties, inexperienced operators training and safety, hauling advantages, more hp in smaller package.
M4700 looks more like a farm tractor to me,
sc -- you got it
and is not that much bigger in size or wheelbase.
sc -- "that much," sometimes an inch may as well be a mile. It will either fit your tightest dimension or it will not. You should try to plan ahead to avoid "expensive surprises."

Anyway some have said that I could just get L2350 for $8500 used and its fine, but implements seem to be quite restricted as to their ability, and I will be doing things around the farm, and it seems like if one is going to have a loader it should be able to load some heavy stuff.
sc -- If you "buy right and at good value" and error in size/model selection you can trade without taking a "hit". The key is good planning and buying a good value. Avoid purchasing implements that will not hold thier value or disadvantage you if you have to sell quickly.
It would be nice to have a bale option, but there are so many farmers around here that bale it really doesn't make a huge degree of sense to pay a lot for just this capability.
sc - good thinking
sc - come see us at http://www.carverequipment.com/
Good Luck and happy shopping,
Steve

3 1. A tractor that comes to a stop, and goes to neutral, then to reverse at any RPMS, any incline, any PTO position WITH LESS EFFORT THAN IT TAKES TO "raise or lower your right shoe weight," No Clutch use for fwd/rev.
2. as much free hand use as possible
3. soft / feather starts at low RPMs.
(THESE UNITS ARE FANTASTIC from this standpoint, AND
kill off the "other" brands with one demo)
4. SAFETY/COMFORT- new, senior citizens, ladies and children for mowing operations -- all those folks interested in the safest tractor for "non-experienced operators - just now graduating up from a "lawn mower type tractor"
5. AS LITTLE EFFORT AS POSSIBLE TO COMPLETE A HARD DAYS/NIGHT WORK - Hard working loader and snow plowing operators. Your back, arms, shoulders will be used only a fraction as much as with the other models.
6. the best REVERSING and LIVE PTO tractor for mowing, tilling. spraying operations
7. A tractor used mainly for trailering, boat ramps, trams
transport.
The GLIDESHIFT GSTs are being shopped and purchased by folks who are seeking as goals for their tractor:
1. a shift system they have become "used to" and completely satisfied with the KUBOTA they traded-in or already have at home.
2. power turns with foot turning brakes
3. folks who prefer not to use their feet or legs for the
fwd/rev function
4. Farm managers seeking SET BY FACTORY SPEEDS, instead of leaving it up to the operator to "find the right speed" for certain applications. WHO DO WANT SPEED SHIFT ON THE GO and hydraulic shuttle fwd/rev.
5. Wanted a time test and proven - WINNER transmission, with hydraulic (no clutching) fwd/rev shuttle and speeds shift "on the go."
The F-2wd and DT-4wds with mechanical shuttle and 8x8 transmission have been the choice of purchasers seeking:
1. A value based long term proven transmission with SHUTTLE, and max. drawbar power to the wheels with preset speeds for basic farming and industrial applications.
2. A heavy duty, tough tractor with a cost saving @ $900. compared to the HSTs and $500 GSTs
3. The best value at lowest cost tractor on the market with shuttle transmission, power steering, independent live power take off, flat platform.
4. Folks who do not need to shift speeds ON THE GO nor hydraulic fwd/rev shuttle.
