I need to buy a tiller, and i am trying to decide between a kingkutter II or a landpride 1558. About a $600.00 difference. I do have some landpride equip. and i love it, but the king kutter is cheaper, heavier, and has more tines.I guess you could go up to a 20 or 25 seies landpride for more tines and more weight, but with more money. I have done alot of tilling (at work) with other tillers, all seem to be about the same to me. I have a dealer for both very close. Im not too concerned about gear vs chain(should i be), more ease of hookup and weight of the unit. In a few years the tiller will be used for comercial work so quality is an issue, but so is price!! Any expeirence with this is more than appreciated!

Dave,

I have a Land Pride 1558 tiller and have used it in my garden. It worked great and have had no problems with it. I like the slip clutch feature. For the money, it is as good or better than the John Deere tillers. I don't have any experience with the King Cutter tillers. I usually see that brand at Tractor Supply Center. You won't go wrong with the Land Pride tiller. ....

I am in the pre-retirement stage so I spend a fair amount of time investigating competing brands looking for real value and quality. Bought a KK box blade last year. My dealer also sells Landpride. He said that quite honestly the only difference was "fit and finish." In the case of my box blade this meant that some of the fit up was just a smidgen ragged and the welds showed some spatter. That mattered not since I wasn't buying a car just gear to level my field and driveway. I like the KK a lot. ....

My 2cents.
For $600 I would go for the LP unit. I have alot of there equipment, and only have a KK box blade & rake. I would really like to trade my BB in for a LP, I don't think I would bend the LP. I know nothing about KK tillers. Alot of folks like them. For me when I need parts LP delivers fast. I have tryed to get teeth for my KK rake were I bought it, it takes for ever.
y first tiller was a 15-58 it did a great job for me. I now have a 25-70 I like it alot more. Get the one you feel will be the best for the long run. ....

Thanks for the input, but im curious now about ccm's. What about parts and shiping, i dont have a dealer near me for a ccm. Everytime you need a part you have to pay for shipping? I am worried about parts for kk as well, i know i will be on a job and need someting, chances are my lp dealer will have it on hand or can get it quick, right? Anybody else have a long wait for kk parts? ....

Whatever tiller you get DO NOT LET THEM GIVE YOU A PTO SHAFT THAT IS HOLLOW ON THE MALE SHAFT SIDE. IT NEEDS TO BE SOLID STEEL. A HOLLOW SHAFT WILL TWIST IN 2 PIECES JUST LIKE A PIECE OF LIQUORICE. On a follow-up note, the PTO shaft that came with the tiller was intended for sprayers and fertilizers as it was labeled on the PTO shaft. A light duty PTO shaft intended for a sprayer IS NOT what you need for a tiller. ....

Dave, the CCM is built like an anvil. I would just buy a few extra blades when I buy the machine. As long as the shipping is reasonable, I think you would be way ahead.

well, i have baught the kk tiller a few weeks ago, and i am very impressed. The only problem now is i am out of places to till up!!! I have tilled about two acres so far, some for garden, some for new lawn, and I love the machine. The slip clutch works great, and it tills very deep. I run my 2 bottom over it first of course. I hit a huge rock (2x3x1) and the slipclutch worked great. It leaves a very good finish, even when wet or sod. Very easy to hook up on my tractor. The finish is not much to be desired(paint) but the unit is solid. I am wondering if landpride isnt pricing themselves out of the market. No offense, i have lp equip to and i love it as well. But im sick of paying out the nose for it! ....

I followed the link to CCM and this tiller is listed at $1950, not $995.
Do you have a special discount card or something?
I would love to drive down and pick one up at $995. ....

That was a price on the CCM MR160 tiller 7 years ago, when steel was less than $200 a ton. ....

I'm very happy with my 5' KK tiller I've had for several years. I took the shoes off so I can bury it a foot in the ground. I don't know about getting parts for it because I haven't broke anything yet. ....

Check the law in your state, having it on line may not be sufficient. Have a talk with the dealer they may carry some wait there. Also there is social media..may find support there. ....

This tread caused me to think on my rear blade and did go look to verify the brand, King Kutter. It was bought about 2002 probably. It is a heavy 7 foot blade with rotation of the blade two different directions. That blade has been to welding shop think three times for repairs, two with the rear blade broken off. One was to have the lugs for cat 2 pins added that it was sold to be and rated for and larger HP them my tractor it was used on. Metal has held up very good but the welds were undersize on the blade mounts. Disappointed me as former welding inspector I missed that in selecting the blade. By far have used it more than all other rear blades in my life time but if to buy over not sure would, if I did it would be dropped off at a shop I used for those welds to be beef up. kt ....

5420deer...You do not state what failed. Was it the clutch, pto shaft, gears, gear box, or bearings? Do you have any pictures? Were you forcing it to till with extra weight and speed? The pto shaft should never be more than 35deg when tiller is lifted and should only be run at 540rpm. Was it filled with grease when new? Did the clutch slip and how tight was the clutch adjusted? ....

The welds broke on the main tiller shaft, very poor welds looks like no penetration in the metal,I was tilling soft soil with no rocks and slow speed,I have never had a tiller that broke so easy.

I am always tempted by low prices that King Kutter has and wonder how bad can cheap stuff be? That said I have usually gone with Landpride as long as the piece is not goin to empty my bank account. ....
