Hi, I was wondering if anybody out there would know why my hydraulic linkage arms at the rear of my tractor won't work? I was doing some slashing and I raised the linkage to turn around, when I hit a bump and the arms just lowered. I now can't raise the linkage arms at all. Any guidance would be hugely appreciated. I'm not much of machanical hand! Regards Anthony.

I assume you have a Foton 45hp tractor?

See https://tractorpoint.com/forum/chinese-tractors/116085/1/FOTON-TRACTOR-Review.html for less-than-wonderful experiences getting parts and service...

Without knowing a lot more about the particulars of your tractor, a few things to check...

- The hitch lift is most likely hydraulic.
- Do you have plenty of hydraulic fluid? (check the dipstick)
- Do any other hydraulic functions work, or are all hydraulics dead?
- Is the PTO still functional (is it hydro or mechanical?)
- Is the lift control noticeably harder or easier to operate than before? I've had linkages freeze up or break, usually in hard-to-get-to places like under the fender & behind the tyre.
- Is there an oil spill at the scene of the problem?
- Any different noises; is there a pressure relief valve opening up (they frequently 'whine')? ....

Thanks for getting back to me. I'm not sure if the pto is hydraulic or machanical. I engaged the pto this morning and it worked fine. I checked for any fluid spills and non was observed. The front end loader will not work now as well. It's like I've lost all hydraulics. I checked the hydraulic fluid this morning and it was real low. I added 4 ltrs and still no change. Nil hydraulics at all, front and rear. Do you think I might of blown up the hydraulic pump or will I need to add more than 4 ltrs of fluid??? ....

Ouch, sounds like a hydraulic issue not a lift issue.
You need to identify a spot to measure the hydraulic pressure. Also find the manual and see if there is a screen or filter on the hydraulics and clean or replace the filters. Have you disconnected any implements or fittings or moved any hoses? When I disconnect my backhoe I have to connect two hoses together to make things work again. ....

http://www.discounttractors.net/downloads/front_end_loader_manual.pdf

Check that a bypass valve has not been open or that a rate of descent valve has not been completely closed.
I had that happen to me once. is there a know betweeen you legs under the seat? Try to open that if it is. Someone might have closed it all the way.
Is the system whistling when its running? Maybe a hose is hooked up backwards and the system is in relief dumping all the pressure to the sump. ....

As far as hydro fluid, you should have enough to at least get to the 'low' mark on the dipstick. I worry that you have a leak somewhere if you need to add more than a few liters; hydro oil doesn't just evaporate or burn up. The total capacity is probably around 25-30 liters so if the system is close to empty then 4 liters won't be enough. Have you changed the hydro (& filter) since '04? ... it's time...

If the hydro is dry, repriming the pump may be somewhat involved; a call to your dealer will be in order.

I'd suspect the pump or it's linkage to the engine, though pumps are pretty reliable. ....

Think you have been given good advice but first thing is to verify the fluid level. The tractor has a dipstick or sight gauge most likely to verify the fluid level. DO NOT RUN TILL YOU DO THIS AND IF LOW BRING TO AT LEAST THE LOW Level. DO not over fill either. ....

Transmission fluid now is over full. Looks like all the hydraulic fluid from yesterday leaked into the transfer case part . What is going on here? ....

Uuuuhhhh....
Are you sure you poured the 4l of hydro into the hydraulic reservoir and not into the transfer case?
(Admittedly, it's hard to screw up as probably the only place to fill is the dipstick plug hole.) ....

I filled the hydraulic fluid to the rear of the tractor. That's where I was told the hydraulic fluid fill point was. I just wanted to check the transfer oil and when I did it was full to the brim of hydraulic fluid. I then rechecked the rear where I put the oil and it was dry. Why do you think the oil has left one compartment to the other??? I'm pretty worried know that I will need a whole rear linkage rebuild. Regards Anthony ....
