I found a grease fitting that was very badly damageg----kinda the end was smashed--
So I bought a new one--installed it---grease would not go in. Took it back out---probed the hole with a pointey thingie---squirted WD 40 in---put the air hose to it---did this bout 3 times---grease still will no go in.
Im thinkin the pin must be removed & cleand up----But that would be just impossiable for me to do.

Any suggestions please ? Thats the new grease fitting dead center--

Also I do not see a grease fitting on the arm pin on the left---should there be one there ?

Possibilities:

-you turned the new one in so tight there's no room for the grease to exit. (If turning it out a bit does the trick, mark that position, clean the lube from the internal and external threads, apply a good threadlock, and turn it in to that position.)

-that might be because someone added the zerk (maybe following repairs at the joint), and the outside collar wasn't thick enough to take all the threads of a standard zerk

-the internal round member is positioned so it presses hard against the zerk side

-your gun doesn't provide the required pressure because it's low quality or blocked or airlocked.

I can't think why both sides shouldn't have, if not a zerk, at least an oiler. ....

It is a brand new gun, bought at Tractor Supply & looks of good quality ( works on the other fittings). Maybee a Air presured one at a tractor garage would work. I have a desiel mechanic comming out ( so he says---still waiting--2 weeks now) to fix my hydrolic leak---I'm sure he will have one on his truck----a very big truck I might add.

Since my last post I dicovered Another grease fitting (Is that what you call a zerk ?). Where the round member connects to frame---behind that black hose on right---It will not take grease either.
I'm thinkin This area was not greased in a very long time & the grease in there has dried into a solid mass IMHO. ....

"The new grease fitting has a shorter threaded shaft than the old one." Good, then.

"It is a brand new gun, ... looks of good quality ( works on the other fittings). Maybee a Air presured one ...." Still, it is made and priced for the consumer rather than the professional market. Air-powered guns might not be more forceful (just more convenient) and they don`t let you feel the grease going in.

``Another grease fitting (Is that what you call a zerk ?). will not take grease either... the grease in there has dried into a solid mass IMHO.`` Yes, after its inventor, Oscar Zerk. Probably right -- solidified grease in there.

I don't have a Lincoln air grease gun but my air gun is weaker than the manual model for me.

Good parts stores probably have them but there are on line for about $30 I think, a cylinder you fill with oil and hit with hammer to drive the oil in there to bust open the dirt or dried out grease or what ever.

I hit send before ready...just do a search for grease fitting buster. Did so and you will find a few options but all are basically the same I have seen.

This worked for me...small drill bit with light pressure on drill. As soon as it hit solid I stopped. Was amazed at the dried out grease in there. I have a shaft on my excavator bucket that will give me trouble, found having the bucket curled and open while greasing was much easier. Also try raising and lowering the boom for you may find a spot it does take the grease better. Think you said there was a fitting in one end of the shaft, if do it could be drilled at least half the length or further so will need long long drill bit. You only need an 1/8 inch bit. Again if you use drill and bit do not push much. ....

Well I have used the 'Grease Buster' bout 5 times now & still not been able to pump grease in. I will keep trying though. Been useing Liquid wrench in it. I don't think any fluid is getting in there. Maybee I should use something else----any suggestions ?????
Guesss I will try a drill bit as KT mentioned. Last resort is to try and remove the pin & clean all up----But I think I will wait on the deisel mechanic to come out her (still waitin on him---3 weeks now---must call him) ....

Skip, depending on the pin design if you can remove what ever is holding it from rotating (may require back it out some to clear a key-stock or such) rotate it and try again. My guess is there is even metal shavings in it that must be pushed out. But grease can dry amazing hard. ....

Skip, if you're using Liquid Wrench in the Grease Buster it likely won't work, and if it does, it'll make a heck of a mess.

Fill it with nothing but regular grease.

The seals in it are designed to work with grease, thin oils are likely t blow right past the seals and do nothing.

We also sometimes use some heat in conjunction with the Grease Buster. Even the worst hard dry grease softens up pretty good with a little heat from a plumbers torch. Warm the area right around the grease fitting, as well as the edges of the joint, anywhere the grease might be exposed to air and or dirt.

Best of luck. ....
