The subject says it all... I turn the key part way to get the dials to light up and heat the coil, no problems. It's when I turn the key the rest of the way to fire the tractor up that it just pops the fuse. I've replaced the fuse panel and checked the starter. I can't find anyplace it could be shorting...

Does anyone have any ideas?

You didn't specify which fuse, but I'll assume the 30A system fuse. If yes, I suspect you've crushed the clutch interlock switch - or switch wires - underneath the left floorboard.

I'll check that out as soon as I get home... I'll also check which fuse it is! Sorry about that!

Thanks for the quick reply. I'll let you know what I find.

OK, I'm finally back with a reply... talk about slow. However there is a legitimate reason. I went over all of the points mentioned and found no issues. Everything looked like brand new. As it should with only 28 working hours on the tractor. I went and did a few extra thins like, took my starting in to have it checked and checked all of my connections on the ignition and put it all back together. Guess what happened? If you said it started right up I'll have to say you were... RIGHT!

How odd is that? I ran it for a day as I had to bury a horse that just died (this was a sad sad day). It ran with no issues at all. Started it up several times always wondering when it was going to quit. That answer came the next day...

I went out and got some fresh fuel to fill my tank and prepared for a day of digging up dirt for our raised beds and mowing a few acres and was having a time getting it to kick over. Nothing unusual in the chill of the day, however, I had to turn the key a few more times that I did the day before. On turn 4, it just acted like it was having a hard time, and then just quit. No gauges, nothing... very odd.

I checked ell of my connections, tightened a few here and there for good measure and hopped up there to try again. Same thing, only this time for whatever reason, I tried again and turned the key slowly... it would catch in the oddest of spots and try to turn over... Since the engine was still cold, it still didn't start, however after a turn or two more I could no longer find the sweet spot....

So now it looks like I need an ignition. The place where I purchased my tractor has since gone out of business and I can't find a dealer anywhere close. I've heard trough reading on other sites that there is a Ford switch out there that I can swap out but none of the sites said what switch it was. Does anyone know where I can either get a new factory switch or one that will work, Ford or otherwise? ....

Every keyswitch in every Chinese tractor I've owned (four of'em) has failed. The KM454 doesn't have glow plugs, so I just used a cheap blister pack switch from an auto parts store - seven bucks I think. But the other 3 tractors require a cold start switch, and I used the Ford type. A little more expensive, but you still get change from a $20 bill. Check out the link below, I made up that little cheater back when I owned that pair of Jinmas.

The web page imbedded in my hyperlink above has expired. So the link below provides a few leads to the same type aftermarket keyswitch. It's been sold over the years with several part numbers.
