I think this model is new for this year. I haven't been able to find any reviews. Does anyone have any comments on this model? I think it is made in India.
Thanks,
Eddie

I just took a new 5603 back to the dealer, way too many problems, tractor lurches, parts falling off, fit and finish was terrible, ps leaking, ac leaking, fuel gauge wouldn't work, work lights out, electrical brake hook up fell off, PTO engagement problems, waiting a JD recall on this less paint on paintable parts than I have ever seen, you could see throug the paint, power reverser very slow to engage in reverse, right side door would close, striker plate adjustment needed. exhaust spewing blacl particles ....

The tractor seat had to be moved back, they had it so close it just would work if you were over 6 ft tall, powereverser was great, visibilty is good, Ihad the tires reversed so that cutting on dams wouldn't be a problem, I did not like the new pistol grip on the frt end loader, the 4 speed was also hard going into gear, this was my 3rd Deere since 1993, and I am very disappointed with this tractor, everything just seemed cheapened. I am looking at a 5625 at the present time. ....

USA,

Thanks for the additional info, but I was actually just trying to be funny. Sounds like Deere really blew this one.

Wow, It sure sounds like the dealer didn't prep this one very well. I don't like the sound of all those problems either, but all of that should have been taken care of when it was predelivered! Before you took delivery. As far as fit and finish, The 5X03 series are designed to be price fighter models to compete with some of the cheaper brands out there. I guess they cut some corners in the frills and cosmetics. Hopefully the mechanical problems were flukes of new model and lack of dealer prep. ....

I "had" a john deere 5603. I returned the tractor and got a refund. I threatened a law suit and they gave me my money back. The tractor had a surging in the engine. They first told me they could not find anything wrong and brought it back to me and when I called the same day and said it is still doing it the survice manager came out and said ok I see what you are talking about and after returning to shop looked in the computer at jd network and said the problem had been reported in other 5603's. They said engineering department was working on it and would let them know how to fix it. This rolled on for about a month and I told them I did want to wait anylonger and I wanted a refund. The store manager said he wanted replace the fuel system and if that did not work he would give a refund. After 3 more weeks of replacing springs and waiting on parts to come in they replaced the fuel pump. He then said it was fixed and wanted me to take the tractor back. I went to the deelership and dove the tractor. The problem was a lot less noticeable but it still surged when you hit small bumps. I have a friend that has one and his surging and he says he has gotten use to it. I think there is problem with them all. I have 2 other john deeres a 5500 and a 5410. I have had a couple of other john deeres in the past and considered myself a john deere man. I am pretty disapointed with the way I was treated. I think they know there is a problem and just have not decided what to do about it yet. They may have cost themselves a longtime customer. ....

How many hours were on the tractor when returned? I have been working "thru" many issues on my 5603. It currently has 400 hrs on it. The PTO just siezed up, every seal on the front end leaks, the HP line into the turbo leaks, among other things. Is it too late to bring it back and tell them to give me the credit on another tractor?

Placer, I think that 400 hours disqualifies a full refund even if you offered a reasonable "rental fee" for the work it did. But a tractor is expected to serve for nearer 4000 hrs without major component failures. So given the above reports, if the dealer won't make a reasonable accommodation, you might talk with a consumer-protection lawyer about the legislation on implied warranties in your jurisdiction. ....

Auer here in the States, eh? LOL, those type of lawyers are called "strict liability" attorneys.

And I agree 400 is a lot of hours to not have litigated already.

He might also consider googling "class-action suit" for his situation. ....
