Similar to Billy's comment: We probably need a specific problem to crew on. However, since few participants here have ever been factory trained tech's, solutions found here but not from a dealer may say more about the dealer than any collective brilliance around here.

I don't know if there are still new 4300's in inventory and whether this is a new or a used purchase. It might also be good to indicate if the tractor was purchased from the dealer or somewhere else--not that it should make any difference to the service received. However, it is good to keep in mind that occasionally a just plain mystery machine is made that confounds everybody who touches it. Hope you haven't got one of those.

I bought the tractor from a dealer new. The main control valve has been replaced twice. The cylinders have been rebuilt a couple off times. The dealer has been good about working on it. They have put in about $2500.00 in parts, and it still is not right. The dealer is going to try another part next week. The front laoder (430) works very sparatic. Front bucket will not hold position Main loader arms creep down. Sometimes the bucket will drop as much as a foot. ....

If just the "leakdown" is what you are describing as the problem (don't understand what "sparadic" means), then your dealer may just be chasing stardust. I found out with my 4300 that the loader cylinders held just fine, until after I transported a major amount of top soil about 300 yards. After that the loader will "leakdown". I attribute that to the hard use I put the loader through. I rarely find it annoying except when hanging a deer from the bucket to skin and butcher it. But then it just means I need to keep working and get the job done. Otherwise, I don't rely on the bucket holding its position for any length of time. If parked the bucket is lowered for safety reasons, whether there is a load in it or it is empty.
Now leakdown is not something I like, but I will tolerate it.

Some threads in another site talk about aluminum in the cylinders that cause FEL problems, but I interpreted (as in 'remember') the problems were more serious than leakdown. Also, some here have previously described early 4x00's as having steel filing debris (from manufacturing) in the hyd. fluid, and some debris might be stuck in your system (but that sounds like what your dealer has already been chasing). I doubt that your Deere is any more prone to this problem than the other brands, as leakdown seems like a common aggravation with CUT owners.

Now, your "handle" seems to be a potential giveaway to your propensity to have "problems" (smile). Hopefully we collectively can shed some light on them for you to be less 'fickle' about your "leakdown". (There is a form of "leakdown" that comes with age (smile)). ....

I do constuction work and have a set of forks that i also use. Sometimes the loader will not stay up long enough to put stickers under the material. So its not just a minor leakdown problem if thats all it was i could live with that.If you try to back blade with the bucket the bucket will uncurl. The float position will not pop into the indent and stay there. I did not list al the problems before becuase there is so many. The backhoe has always worked exceptionally well no hydraulic problems at all, same oil and filters. On the three piont hitch the ball fitting on the inside stuck during use. The dealer took it all apart and cleaned it put it back together now the rocker arms won't raise the backhoe high enough to install the pins. Back to the loader again there have been times when you try and lift the bucket it would drop 6 to 8 inches before it will raise. ....

Your comment about the loader dropping 6-8" before going up is familiar-- my 4200 did the same thing with 420 loader. My problem was a blown out piston seal on one of the lift cylinders. It also allows the bucket to drift down.
They rebuilt my cylinder and it works fine now. Note that I saw rust spots on the cylinder wall when I shined a light
in the dissassembled cylinder (but didn't think until too late to do something about it). I wonder if some cylinders
have rust in them from sitting new on the dealers lot before
assembly?

It sounds like the dealer should sort out these problems under warranty. JD has leak-down specs for their loaders and it sounds like the loader exceeds them. If it's a JD hoe, the same problem was discussed here awhile back and the thread should be in the archives. I can't recall exactly what the conclusion was but I think it may have been an adjustment thing.

The loader leak-down could be cylinders or the valve. An easy to test if the cylinder lines have quick-disconnects to onto the valve is just disconnect them with a load raised. If it lowers it's definitely the cylinders unless there's visible leakage somewhere. Since both the lift and bucket circuits seem to be faulty, I'd guess it's a valve assembly problem.

A more conclusive test is to set the bucket on the ground, disconnect the lift-side cylinder hose at the valve and attach a spare quick-disconnect fitting to open the hose. If the piston seals are bad, applying down-pressure to the bucket would produce a squirt of oil out the disconnected hose. The bucket cannot move for this test, because that would normally produce exhaust oil and the disconnected hose would be the return path.

Serious injury can result and care must be taken when working around pressurized oil where there may be a leak.
