I'm new to diesels so I need help. This tractor has been great for the last 5 years but this week it has decided to quit running after 30 - 40 min of cutting. I changed the fuel filter and it seemed to have fixed the problem. 45 min later it quit again. I can hear a selenoid click then it will start but only for a few seconds. I let it cool off and it runs great for another 30 - 45 min and it qits again. I have been using mobil 1 and just changed it last week but never had problems before. Am I looking at major expense and if so, where can I get parts? All my service manuals forgot to put parts numbers or cross reference's. The tractor is a Mitsubishi MD210D TC

To start with I would check the filter screen in the gas tank. If you get a little rust flakes in the tank from the diesel it will collect on the filter. You run for 30-40 min. it cuts off the diesel then you stop and it falls off. You get the idea.

second A solenoid is an electromagnet with fine wire wrapped around the core. They will do funny things sometimes they just die like a light bulb, sometimes there is a connection cold and not warm other time warm and not cold. I would look at the fuel solenoid. ....

I have run in to this problem with a Mitsu engine in a Mini excavator before. When ever the engine got warm it shut off. Turned out to be the fuel cut out solenoid. Replaced that and never had the problem be for. To check put a test light on the hot wire to the solenoid and when it shuts off the light should still be lit. also get close enough that you can hear exactly where the "click" is coming from. ....

Have you checked the fuel filler cap (the ventinf portion of it) to be sure there isn't a vacuum condition? A samll amount of dust and debris mixed with with fuel is all it takes. ....
