Just got me a 445 long not real pretty in sure of the year but has been sitting up for about 5 years in a barn I paid 1300 for it sort of a gamble. Starter been rebuilt and new fuel filter used battery where done by the previous owner. Fuel system still need cleaning and inspection. Defiantly need some TLC the wiring is another concern going to need a schematic I'm sure. Battery doesn't seem to be all that hot the owner told me he could turn it over and get white smoke. So basically my question is is there any obvious place to really start I want to make sure she runs and shift and get an idea of where I'm at with her.

I just started doing the same thing with a Long 460 that I inherited from my grandfather. If yours is turning freely, its better than where I started. My engine was almost seized. After I finally got mine turning freely, I bought a new battery and then started turning it over several times every day to make sure it was all lubed up before trying to start it. After about a week, I drained all the old fuel, put in new fuel and bled the fuel system. I had to use starter fluid a few times, but it finally started up. I let it idle for a bit, then made sure the lift worked and the tractor would move. Then change the oil, hydrolic fluid, and all filters. I was able to find fuel filters and oil filter at tractor supply. I had to order the hydrolic screen filter. LongParts.com has about anything you need. ....

Well got my 445 running had to go though the entire fuel system. On the other hand the wiring harness has years of abuse and everything jump out cut you name it's done even has a plate welded on to fit a Chevy alternator wow. So anyhow it runs then I hear the bad news she's knocking bad. I pull the hatch below oil pan started looking the trust washer are gone and #1 rod bearings are spun. Ya what to do no wonder the clutch wouldn't work. So the block has a little damage I'm worried about the groves that hold the thrust washer on the block and the crank damage where the washer ride. To top it off when I had it running I notice the engine to be leaking fluid on the outside of the block seems to be coming from the water jacket on side of the block. The oil was not contaminated with water. I'm not sure what to do seems like a money pit a new crank like 600$ with bearings not including everything else any body with any ideas ....

Jspeed1987,
It seems you've come to those famous crossroads, where you have to decide if you want to go ahead with the overhaul, or write off your loss and possibly reclaim your money by parting it out.
From personal experience, I'd suggest selling the tractor for parts.
It's sad to see so many old tractors die like this.
Joel ....
