I was told by a dealer while looking at the L3010 that the 4in1 bucket is too large for the 30 hp tractor and that I would not get the full performance from the bucket. Can anyone comment on their experience with this combination?

The concept of a 4in1 is a great one, however, like many 'multi-task' items it does none of them perfectly, it is by virtue of it's design a series of comprimises. The concept of a loader is to lift, when you make the bucket extra strong (to handle the additional stress), and more complex it also ends up much heavier, thereby reducing useable lift force. A L3010 is of limited capacity to start with, I think I would have to agree with your dealer on this one, by the time you added all that extra weight, you might only have 500lb. lift capacity. We use grapple teeth, 2 of them, 1 every two feet, spread out over the 6' of bucket, working as a single unit instead. The total added weight is about 75lb. including cylinder. What it won't pick up, we carry some other way. Best of luck. ....

Lefty, I agree with Murph. You don't want to hang a 643lb multi-purpose bucket on a machine as light as the 3010. The normal material bucket for that FEL is somewhere around 300lbs, I think. The typical 4 in 1 goes about 650lbs, so you'll be reducing your lift capacity by more than 300lbs. You'll also find that the cubic capacity of all types of multi-purpose buckets is less than a standard bucket by about 1/3. So why would anyone want one? On larger machines with greater forces the loss isn't as dramatic as it is on a compact, you'll see them frequently on big Deeres, Cases, NH's, Cats, etc. They are also popular on the larger skid steer machines that have 2000lb full height lift capacity. On the smaller machines, as Murph said, they really don't do much very well at all. The dozer blade is limited to pushing light material and puts a tremendous load on the bucket pins. The clamping feature exerts more force than the diminished lift, so even if you could hold it, you couldn't lift it to full height. You also have to add a set of front remotes and another valve to operate the additional cylinders, this could be a very expensive attachment after you total it all up (including the wear and tear). I use the Woods scrap grapple, it is lighter and has a full bottom plate and nice teeth, it works real well for most jobs where clamping is necessary. You can't doze with it, though, for that I rent a real dozer when I need it. Hope this helps. ....

Don't know about other brands, but a Long 4n1 60" bucket weighs 340#s, 62",346#s and a 64",352#s. Cost run about $1250 to $1300 for the above sizes. You also need a elec scv valve, cost $375. Bucket clamp bite is 3000 psi.

hope this helps,
george ....
