A word of caution here, while these clamp on type forks are dead handy, not to mention very handy if you don't have a quick-tatch bucket, they will considerably reduce the lifting ability of the loader, and if counter-balance is already a concern it will make that situation even worse. The design of these (as with most of this type) put the ENTIRE load out beyond the edge of the bucket. Best of luck. ....

I do realize that they put the load way out on the tractor..I just wanted them for moving nothing over a 3 or 4 hundred lbs. I have a 430 loader on my JD 4300 and Jd probably makes forks that will fit right on the loader, but they are probably costly ....

Hoghead. Do you mean in place of the bucket on the FEL? Seems that would work well, with the quick tach bucket on the JD FEL's. ....

Just talked to my dealer, and yes - they are pricy, and yes - they quick tach in place of the bucket. They have adjustable forks, and the forks lock at the bottom so they will not flop (swing), and also down-pressure is possible. That arrangement would bring the forks closer to the tractor, as compared to forks added to the bucket. But they come with a price - retail $1005. Thinking I will go that route. Thanks for the idea. ....

For what it's worth - I have the JD Pallet Fork Attachment, which I use with a 410FEL/4100Hydro. I paid $859 for it new, in December 2000. I had considered getting the clamp-on style but I'm glad I opted for the JD forks. First, the hardest part about changing from the FEL Bucket to the Forks is getting off the tractor to install the locking pins - it's that easy. I don't worry about the forks and their load bending or warping my bucket. (I suspect I can do that without using clamp-on forks!) The pallet fork attachment is well made: the frame is strong, and the fork blades are tempered. The blades are adjustable for spacing, are readily removeable, and the frame will take hay-bale spears. I did replace the hex bolts that lock the blades with knobs - no reason to carry a wrench. I changed my mind and decided on the JD attachment after talking to a neighbor who has a tractor, and learning some of the uses for forks besides moving pallets - like picking up brush piles. I found that the price of the clamp-on style would run $250-400 - so over the life of the equipment the price difference isn't that great. Finally, I just felt better/safer with a "true" pallet fork attachment - but this was my first tractor purchase. In either case, I'd STRONGLY suggest that you get a ballast box / 3-PT weight box to balance the load - you will definitely need it! HTH ....

I too, like Dave Wells, have the JD pallet forks for my JD4400 w/430 loader. I had considered installing a set of clamp on, or over-slung forks, but decided against it (loss of lifting capability). The forks are a quick-tatch set up similar to the bucket. This set up is so easy to change that my daughters can easily exchange the bucket and forks without any assistance. I paid about $975.00 for my set in October of 2000. We've used them for everything from moving pallets, and logs, to carrying brush. ....

I dont know if it is true anymore but.... 5 or 6 years ago when I bought front weights for my 970 the JD dealer told me one price for them delivered in two or three days and about $100 cheaper if I could wait until the next monthly factory truck came around, that might be true for just about any smaller part or implement that is green. ....

Chris, I got mine through Trottier & Sons in White River Junction, Vermont. I think Steve makes a good point - the dealers seem to get weekly/monthly/etc. shipments, and if you can let something come in on one of those shipments, you can often get a better price. If you (and the dealer) have to "special order" something, it seems like everybody's cost's go up. I've also noticed that prices vary widely from area to area - the best price I've been able to find for a Land Pride QH-15 Quick-Hitch is $300 in the New England area; out in Arizona a guy told me he got one for about $225. And of course, if you can find something that's been sitting on the dealer's lot for a while, you can usually get that at a much better price. ....
