Gene,

I have a Bush Hog Loader on a Cub Cadet 7234, 23HP 4WD tractor and it seems to work fine. I bought the tractor new from a dealer and I could have had the Cub brand or the Bush Hog. I think the BH brand was several hundred dollars cheaper so I took it. One thing they are not is a Quick Detach Loader. It can be removed without a lot of effort but it won't come off quickly like the factory loaders will. It also means that if you have to remove the bucket or any of the hydraulic cylinders you have to "drive" out the steel pins as opposed to the QDL type that come out easier, (I think). The BH loader seems to be well made and very solid. It doesn't have the steel hydraulic lines, it uses rubber lines instead. At the time I compared it to other loaders and it lifted just a much or more in weight and went higher than they did. One negative is the finish is not as good as the factory loaders but it is heavy enough where it isn't going to rust away. I believe BH makes loaders for some of the tractor manufacturers because I have seen some that look very similar but are painted in the tractor factory colors. I think you would be happy with the BH and the price should be much better. Let me know how it turns out. ....

One thing to consider with non-factory loaders is whether or not you will ever use a mid-mount mower. I was going to buy a Great Bend loader for my 4100, until I discovered that the loader subframe was not compatable with the mounting frame for my mower. Not that I would mow with a loader attached, but I sure didn't want to tear down and reassemble the subframe every time I need to switch. The JD 410 loader is compatable with the mower. ....

BushHog & Great Bend {BushHog owned co.} are excellent aftermarket loaders. For the difference of a few hundred dollars more, I would stick with the mfr {JD} loader. Even now, most aftermarket units are "quick-detach". Normally, you go to an aftermarket loader when the mfr. loader is not available, was never mfr., or no longer available. Loader capacities will remain very close no matter who made the unit. Like Jim said earlier, to prevent any future/present compatibility issues, stay with the mfr. branded loader. ....

I spent a good deal of time looking at Greatbend and Woods du-all loaders for my JD last year. I ended up with a 430 JD loader. I was going for lift capacity and GB actually offered higher capacities for my tractor. However, I believe resale value is enhanced with continuing the JD brand label and I wouldn't want to do without the quick detach bucket system now that I've used it. I do change quite a bit from bucket to forks with forks mounted most the time. Also, don't under estimate the value of bucket curl angle. The GB did not have the new scissor type bucket linkage which gives you that extra curl that is needed to keep most things in the bucket at ground level. This was a big improvement over the 67 loader on my JD750 with the old style linkage and pin removal system for the bucket itself. I actually did like the idea of using a skid steer type quick detach but now realize how easy it is to fabricate ones own front implement using the weldable quick detach bucket parts from JD. Both the upper and lower capture hardware is available to be welded onto your snow plow bracket or whatever. Have I convinced you yet? ....

Eric, do you have any info on the weldable quick-detach bucket brackets for JD loaders? Price? Parts number? I recently built some 3 point forks, and I have been thinking about how to use them on my FEL. This sounds like just the thing. ....

Jim, I can't find the reciept but I remember thinking how reasonable the purchase was in comparison to the utility of the brackets. If I had to guess, I think the top curved brackets were around $13. ea. and the lower weldable pins that fit into a drilled counterbore were about half the first item; but I could be way off as that sounds too reasonable for JD, LOL... Anyways, the top curved brackets have 2 numbers on them (1) W 43359 and (2)4 08 00. The lower pins (1)W 43356 and (2)4 08 00. They also have another piece that supports the upper bracket ,as on a JD bucket, it is welded to the bucket above and then after about a 30 degree angle bend is welded to the top of the first bracket but they were out when I purchased these. This is somthing that could be fashioned with a torch and vise as it needs only a simple bend. Actually, I think the dealership I go to, had this third piece made up for them if I recall correctly and it may not be available as a stock JD part. ....

Thanks Eric. I ordered my capture hardware this morning to modify a universal skid steer pallet fork assembly for my FEL. Some parts numbers have changed
but the numbers you gave could be cross referenced. Hook W43359 $10.29 Strap W43527 old/W45253 new $4.20 Pin W43356 old/W47211 new $5.83. These part numbers are good for JD 410,420,430 FEL. ....

Guys, I'm glad the parts are available and the cost was pretty reasonable for once. The JD dealer I prefer to frequent is a small extention store so parts like these must sit for years. Especially, because no one knows their available. Thanks for the numbers. I'm going to copy them down myself for future use. ....
