I have a 790 with a 70 Loader. If the tractor is not running, the bucket will not stay up, but will drift to the ground in about 3-4 hours. Any thoughts. Thanks a million. Bob L.

I also have a JD790, and I also notice that my loader will also settle down. have never left it up full height and timed it though. Usually about foot off the ground, come back later and its on the ground. Never gave it much thought, just though it was natural leakage around the spools.

Robert & Halsey, you either have the seals in the cylinders or the loader valve allowing them to leak down (assuming you have no visible leaks and loss of hydraulic fluid). I believe most manufacturers have some amount of this type of leakage that is considered "within specs." If it's excessive (leaks down too fast) or leaks down very fast with the engine running, then it needs to be fixed. Otherwise, just don't leave the bucket in the air where it can lower onto something or someone. ....

Robert, I was informed by the John Deere mechanic, that was part of the design of my 460 loader and #48 hoe. Maybe the #70 loader also?

My 4100 with 410 loader will do the same over time. If your nearby you can hear it move now and then as it gradually leaks down. ....

My loader seems to stay up indefinitely. I suppose loaders could be designed to settle, and that probably would be good. A standard safety thing is to sit everything down as part of shutting down any type equipment. Kids play, hoses rupture etc. ....

The loader dropping while the tractor is sitting is not that much of a problem and depending on the compnonets used might not be able to be stopped. You would need a check valve control and it is not normally used in this application at all in the industry. When the tractor is running and the loader drops while you are watching it than you do have a problem. ....
