Hi,
Anybody know of a dealer that has access to the Agco parts stock and discounts them. I live out in the sticks and need parts for my Deutz-Allis 5215 Hydro. I have to have them shipped in from a dealer about 250 miles away. This dealer has really bent me over on the price. Location of a discounting dealer is not important, only the price of the parts.
Thanks for any help you can offer.
Jim B.

Elliot Farm Equipment in Pembroke, Ontario, Canada is an AGCO dealer.

I doubt that any dealer actually discounts parts, but there may be an advantage to Canadian pricing due to exchange rates. Parts procured from countries other than the U.S. by Canadian distributors could be bargains since they never were priced in $’s US. The dollar is very high now in terms of most other currencies.

Of course, you'd have to check out customs and shipping arrangements etc.. You also should be aware the practice is unpopular with U.S. dealers-- and for understandable reasons. A dealer might refuse to work on something with a gray market part in it. I don't know, but there often are hidden costs and risks that must be accepted along with bargains.

I have tried pricing parts from Canadian dealers. It wasn't any cheaper than using US dealers. ....

Nice to hear some experience talking here. I suspect that an integrated North American distributor supplies parts. It’s likely that prices are more or less pegged to the $U.S. so there wouldn't much advantage to cross-border shopping. I believe the same is true for many industries.

Parts might be a bargain here if Canadian dealers dealt directly with Japanese manufacturers. Of course, Japanese companies may protect their regional distributors by pricing product according to where it's shipped. I don't know, but if the U.S./C exchange continues to deteriorate, there may be business opportunities for small importers. I think Leonard mentioned that he had dealt with Japanese companies in the past. Maybe he knows the answer.
