Steve, Please stop sending adverts to my e-mail. Advertising on this site is one thing but sending unsolicited e-mail to my home e-mail is another.

Thank you
David ....

I'm with dsg. Carver seems like an OK company, and I can't think of another company from which I'd rather receive e-mail ads. However, it's still an unsolicited ad, and I wasn't offered a choice.

I don't think I have ever sent a post that displayed my e-mail. If true, that means, somebody, at this or another site, provided a commercial company with the e-mail addresses of its subscribers. If that is what happened, I note that there is no privacy policy stated on either site. In effect, use of this site gives the site owners the right to distribute their subscription lists.

I recognize that it takes resources to run a site. However, I believe that everybody should be entitled to make an informed choice about the use of any personal information. A person's e-mail address is personal information. I really don't want to end up back on bulk e-mailer lists.

The Compact Tractor Board has not given out its member list to any Company, including Carver Equipment. Many of you post elsewhere on the Internet where some of the Tractor Companies also advertise, I think you should look into their activities.
At a minimum any Bulk emailer should give you the option of being taken off the list, as an option in the bulk email message, so you don't get emailed from that source again. I hope that was the case for this bulk mailing.

I suspect the webmaster is right (again). If he had given out the email addresses from this board, everyone would have received the ad. Thankfully, I have not received any such ads. ....

I do not hold the webmaster of this site suspect. It may be that CARVER EQUIP grabbed the e-mail's of folks that visited they're web site. It doesn't matter, I have always thought as dealers go Steve Carver was one of the better ones. I hope this kind of conduct does not continue. David ....

Thanks Dennis. I'm real happy to hear that. Just from the way this board is managed, I'd be surprised if there was any other explanation. However, without a privacy policy statement on the board, you would have the right if you so choose.

Carver does advertise on other boards, so there are other sources. I recall going to the Carver site several times, but I don't believe I have ever been in e-mail contact with them. Anyway, this seems to be a minor lapse. Carver has been a well-behaved participant on this and other boards.

Just to be clear about email privacy. At the top of the board, the menu item "Get Info At Carver Equipment". This item was addded to help visitors get information directly from a dealer, and it is clearly listed as such.
When you fill out that form even if you don't fill in the email box, the form and your email address is sent to Carver Equipment, that is just the way this type of application works, the intent is to get an email back from Carver. The Email Address that is sent to Carver is the Email Address of the machine you are on, it does not come from the CTB membership file. If you don't want an Email from Carver just post the question to the Board instead.
I hope this helps to be perfeectly clear.

DSG,
Not to beat a dead Horse. But I just noticed that some of your recent posts are displaying your email address on the CTB Board. So anyone could have taken it as it was / is public. Right now the way the board is set up each message that you post affords you the option of "Concealing" or "Displaying" your email address with the Post. It is easy to forget to "Conceal" your Email Address. When I set this up I thought this would be a good feature so that you could decide on a message by message basis. The majority of users display their email addresses with the post. Would "Users" prefer to set their "Email Display Preference" up just "Once", associated with their "Profile" instead of the Message by Message way? Let me know and if enough people want this, I will change it. ....

Dennis: Setting my profile to default to 'no display' would be better for me. However, I figure that it's my issue and therefore my responsibility. Things are fine as they are. I have privacy software installed that traps if my e-mail is about to be sent. I have forgotten to click on 'no display' a couple times, but that's what the software is for. Thanks for the offer.

By the way, Carver's sale does look pretty interesting. I might pick up something if I was in his area, but international shipments are just too difficult. I still owe Steve a debt of thanks for getting me to think about 3ph backhoe safety about a year ago. ....

I think the way you have the posting process on this board is great, you have the option to post or not to post your e-mail address, just pay attention to what you are doing and make sure you dont inadvertantly post your e-mail if you want it to remain private.
