There are 2 lights on the "dash" of the yanmar 1500, a yellow one and a red one. Does anyone know what they are? The yellow one stays on when the key is in the run position. Is this normal? Thank you for your support.

If standard the yellow is for the generator and the red is oil pressure. I would suspect that something in the charging system is not right.

I have noticed the same thing on mine, but have not yet identified a root cause or a particular problem that this is causing. My first thought was that I was not getting adequate charge back to the battery, but this does not seem to be the case. I have also checked the volage going back to the batery and it appears to be fine as well. If I uncover anything on my end I will try to find your post and reply to you.

MY YM1500 HAS THE YELLOW LIGHT HOOKED UP
FOR ENGINE TEMP. I WAS TOLD THIS IS CORRECT.
YELLOW LIGHT IS SUPPOSED TO COME ON WHEN THE WATER
TEMP GOES ABOVE 170`/ 180`F.

Correct, the Yellow is heat. You probably have a bad heat sensor. Run about $10 to replace, it is on the left side of your block at towards the bottom. Red is oil Pressure.

I DON'T KNOW IF I'M BEING OVERLY CAUTIOUS,BUT, I
DECIDED TO DO-AWAY WITH THE YELLOW LIGHT &
INSTALLED A TEMP. GAUGE FROM "TSC" & NOW I
CAN SEE TROUBLE COMING; THIS IS MY FIRST TRACTOR
WITH A LIGHT INSTEAD OF A GAUGE(OLD MASSEY FAN).
I JUST WANTED TO LET YOU KNOW HOW PAINLESS IT
WAS TO HOOK UP.1-BRASS ADAPTOR FITTING & THE GAUGE
SET ME BACK ABOUT $23.00 .I GUESS YANMAR USES LIGHTS
BECAUSE THEY'RE CHEAPER......... BUT THEY AIN'T
NO GOOD WHEN THE BULB QUITS.... LIFE IS GOOD.

I think you did the right thing with the gauge. It makes me nervous to know that a bad bulb could let me overheat my tractor. They need a "lamp check" like some of their big brothers. I got in my translated YM1500 owners manual from hoyetractor.com (actually from their ebay add but I think its gone now) and it also says that the amber light is for the temp. I found out what a lot of those little things were for that I had been wondering about.
