 Hydraulics slow when cold

I have a Yanmar 155D tractor with a rear blade that is used to clear my laneway. The last time I started it when it was very cold outside, the hydraulics refused to lift the blade and just made a whining noise. It has always worked very well in the past. Can any one help in what possibly could be wrong. P.S , it started to operate after it had run for a few moments. Thanks, Dean Sahs

probally just too cold, let the tractor warm up more especially when temps are at zero or below.

Might be good to check the hydraulic screen, if it is partially clogged the cold fluid will have a harder time getting through to the pump. At the same time replace the fluid with new hy-trans (JD303 compatable universal hy-trans will do). If it is still slow, just be patient with it. If it is slow in the warm months, we have different issues to explore.

Sounds like the oil was thick and the relief valve may have been opening. It's good to give tractors a good warm up before working them in the cold. The oil usually warms up after it's pumped during the warm up and more when the tractor is worked.

You might check with a dealer to see if a multi-season hydraulic oil is recommended for your area. I have some magnetic heaters I use on the sump if I have to start the tractor when it's really cold (its -25F here but the tractor will rest today and me too). I use multi-season oil but I probably would have used the heaters last night if I was going to use the tractor today. I'm not actually sure how much good the heaters do but multi-season oil is good for around here.
