 Newbie-Is 180D "US built"

Hello from PA,

I am new to Yanmars. I've been researching grey market tractors and have learned some interesting things in the past month. Then I get an e-mail about a 180D for sale. I understand they are "US built". Was this before JD bought Yanmar? Are the parts really easier to find than a grey market? Is the extra price worth it? With 850 hours the gentleman is asking $6500 bare. Does anyone own one?

I need a tractor to cut about 2 acres with the brush hog twice a year, dig 12" holes only about a foot deep to continue planting black walnuts, and use a small tiller. Is this 180D good for these chores? Yesterday I looked at a Ford 1220. I liked what it could do. How do these two compare?

I don't believe that Yanmars are US built so to speak. There are US market Yanmar from Yanmar America dealers and grey market tractors. Up until the 4000 series tractors all the small Deeres were assembled in Japan. I think only the 4100 is now, from a recent posting.

I've owned a Yanmar 180D 18 hp 4wd tractor for 15 years now, and it only has about 600 hours on it. I was the original purchaser of this tractor. I would not hesitate to buy another Yanmar tractor if I was in the market for one. All that I've done to this tractor for 15 years is change the oil and filter, lubricate it, change the hydrolic transmission fluid and filter, change the air and gas filters. All of these parts are available at your local NAPA store and they cost about 60% less than what the dealer was asking for the same parts.

I use it to maintain 2.69 acres that I live on in Florida. I originally looked at a Massey Furgeson 1020 as well as John Deere models before deciding to buy a Yanmar.

If your looking to purchase a compact diesel tractor it is hard to beat the Yanmar's...
