Was tilling garden when oil light came on and over heated. Tractor was shut off. A bit later started tractor up and ran ok. Took it back to barn. I noticed the blow by was very heavy like steam and oil. Oil level and coolant were fine. Next day tractor almost impossible to start. When it did start, no power and would die. Did a compression check and found #1 cyl 240lbs, #2 cyl 300lbs. Engine oil has no trace of coolant. I do not know much about Diesel engines. Please help!

bummer. Those YM2000s are tough, but I read more of them with engine problems as of late.
If the oil and coolant looks fine, check the water pump, the belt, and the air going through the radiator. Now, interestingly enough, Yanmar maintenance manuals all state to check the AIR FILTER regularly to prevent over heating of the engine too. Keep that clean as well. ....

You may have blown a head gasket, but if you had low oil pressure & overheated it. you probably at the least need rings. We are an authorized Yanmar dealer & can supply parts for your tractor. ....

If the engine needs rings for the pistons, verify that the bottom pan to the engine can be removed without taking the engine off of the frame. Some of the Yanmar engines are easy to change out the rings, pistons, crank rods and bearings. Not sure about your 2-cly.
There is a guy in my area with a working YM2000 selling for $1000n CL right now. (Nashville area). The engine is great, the rear axle housing got cracked while bush-hogging. ....
