We had a hail storm and I did not notice that the plastic on top of the fuel cap was broken. It rained and water got in my fuel. I started the tractor and it ran for a minute or so then white smoke and died. I immediately removed the filter and drained the fuel tank. replaced the filter and primed it. No she will not start. Any ideas. Hope it is simple. :)

The hand primer is only effective pushing fuel as far as the pump; the low pressure side. Your problem is on the high pressure side; between the pump and the injectors. To get fuel up there you have to crank the pump. But first the air lock must be relieved. With an open end wrench, loosen the hex collars that hold the steel lines to the fuel injectors. Usually 1/2-3/4 turn is sufficient. Then crank the engine and watch the hex collars. You'll initially see bubbles, that's the air being purged. When you see it turn to raw fuel, tighten the collars. In fact, it's not unusual for a small diesel to start as soon as a collar is tightened while cranking.

Not that it matters, but curious as to how you "primed" a 226. ....

"Primed" may be the wrong word. But loosening the screws in the fuel line allows the fuel to pass up the line and removes the air out of the line.

I found another "prime" screw right next to the injection pump that I missed. I bled that one and the tractor started right up. Thanks for all the help. ....

Good! (The verb you wanted was "bled.")

Three factory manuals in English are available for the 226: Operators, Parts, Service. ....
