When I was on vacation recently and my laptop crashed I had to go to the local library to use a PC and I noticed that most libraries still had the PC Displys set to 800 x 600.

This made me wonder what most of you are using, as I have designed the site for 1024x768, while I have my PC set to 1280x1024.

Please let me know which of the display resolutions you use below:

800 x 600
1024 x 768
1280 x 1024
1400 x 1050

Thanks,

Dennis

my home pc is 1024x768 on a 21" Your site is good!
Work is a dinky 17" at 800x600 Your site takes some effort.

I can't tell you how many times I have walked away from that work one PO'd and go do something in the yard. If they want me to stay in the office they'll have to buy a BIG monitor. ....

1024 x 768 here and a 21" monitor. The site looks fine. I do have to use scrolling to get the the active posts screen given the width favourites bar I use but that's a small issue.

Funny you should ask. I work the system and site for my local Library Board. Us volunteer Board members get sucked into to all sorts of things. I designed both the Library site and one for my wife's books for 1024 screens but I kept the images fairly narrow and don't use frames so formatting isn't too bad on an 800 screen. I set the Library's public computer screen for 1024 since many sites are designed for 1024 screens. Some other Board members who use the public computer change it back to 800 and leave it that way. I think I've got to have some discussion at next weeks' Board meeting.

The Librarian and Township staff who sometimes use the admin computer for word processing and library cataloguing prefer an 800 screen so I leave the admin computer alone. However, I can't see subjecting public surfing users to 800 screens that require horizontal scrolling or have odd formatting due to word wrapping. For myself, I permanently block any site that changes my Windows settings, and for the sites I design the buz of detecting user screen settings and switching to an alternate is too complicated. ....

1024x768 here also.

I used to run it at 800x600 but with a big new monitor and a new pair of glasses and the higher resolution is nicer.

As A side note, I find the plain white background and the light greys with black type very easy to read compared to some more 'artistic' sites I venture into.

Best of luck. ....

Dennis,

At home I currently use a desktop with a 17" monitor set at 1024 x 768. Everything looks great. I may be upgrading to a larger flat panel display. If I do I'll keep you informed.

800x600 (iBook), 1024x768 (music studio PowerMac), 1152x768 (this PowerBook).

Because of the way the machines are set up, I've spent most of my time on this site on the iBook, and the width certainly makes work for those on that size or below, I can attest.

Also, a plea for (continued) mercy on those of us whose arms are getting shorter... too many sites are designed by 20-somethings who are clueless, with type sizes to match their experience or lack thereof. This site is a wonderful design and a relief from those!

Finally, THANKS FOR ASKING, Dennis!!! ....
