we are having a discussion at work Wink yeah right about the propper setting of the clutch peddle setting. It is currently adjusted (by ware and lack of proper maintence) to engage when the peddle is all the way out (released). I contend that that setting is dangerous because the engagement is eratic and unpredictable in close quarter or delecate movements (backing up to a piece of equipment to attach to). I contend that the clutch should engage fully at no more than 50% of travel. The boss says it doesn't matter. Anybody have an opinion out there?

You are correct its best at 50% that way it does not jump when it pecks at the top of the pedal. I hate those clutchs like that.
I have two tractors one like that and one at 50% out.
The 50% tractor is way better to control...
Mike

You bring up an interesting point, at least for me who knows little about clutches.

Every tractor I've seen specifies the freeplay (free movement at the top of its travel). Presumably when the freeplay begins, the maximum engagement has been completed. But you're asking about when the engagement BEGINS as you raise it. I don't know if that is specifically adjustable (and if so, how) or it it's just a consequence of the freeplay setting.
