 Taft? tractors

Does anyone own or have info on Taft tractors - who makes them, quality, experience? Should this be considered - resale value?

Possibly you are referring to TAFE tractors. It is my understanding that these are manufactured in India using older Massey-Ferguson designs. Check out www.tafe.com. I believe TAFE means Tractors and Farm Equipment.

These TAFE tractors look like diesel guzzlers from the 1960's. Very old Massey Ferguson designs. Espcailly those with round front ends whose pics appear at that web site "www.tafe.com". But they might be real CHEAP if the importer in the US doesn't like to double the price calling it PROFIT.

If these are newly manufactured utility-sized Masseys from the 60's and 70's they would be hard to beat. Darn good tractors, good design, outstanding durability. They had a lot of HP in a compact design. I see that 'Nuc' calls 'em fuel hogs. Being higher HP, they might use more fuel than a compact diesel, but in the US that is not so much of an issue - as our fuel costs are way below most other countries.
Apparently some groups in India are buying some old manufacturing plants complete and licensing the production of known designs. Someone over there is also producing vintage British motorcycles. Friends who have tried them tell me that they are "Just like a Brit bike except everything works."
If true, it's an interesting approach to building a manufacturing base for their economy...anyone else know anything about this?

Ed, I guess you just run down to your local TAFE dealer and ask for what you need... Smile. No?.... Well, I agree with your concern. It is precisely worry about available spare parts that keeps me from buying one of the more unusual makes myself. But if I could get over my concern about parts I'd like to own a TAFE, a Swinger, and a Zetor. As long as I'm dreaming ....- Have you ever seen a Pasqualli? I think I have it spelled right, it is an Italian compact tractor, hinged in the middle, 4wd, made for working in tight places like vineyards. Wow!
Before I get to involved in this dream, its best to keep in mind that my own tractors are Yanmars. But of course that's different.

My Massey dealer says that he can get parts for the TAFT's just as easy as anything else. He sales Masseys and TAFTS. TAFT has been making Masseys (under licences)in India for over 30 years.

Ed: About a year ago I was considering the purchase of a new tractor and weighing the merits of large compact vs. small utility. I was impressed with the MF line and did some negotiating with a dealer that was close(very close, actually)about a utility. About this time I spotted an ad in a local ag paper for a TAFE dealer. This prompted me to do some research and I learned the same facts as previously posted. Unfortunately, the smallest 4WD tractor at the TAFE dealer was too large for my needs, although I do recall the price was attractive. My interest in TAFE ended when I made the decision to go with a compact and bought Kubota. If you're still curious about TAFE, I would suggest a visit to a dealer in your area to see what is available today. Be sure to post your findings.

Whats the correct name for these beasts TAFT or TAFE ? The web site http://www.tafe.com is for Tractors And Farm Eguipment company. But http://www.taft.com is a web site asking the name of Dr. Neergaard's wife. Since i dont know the answer to that i typed some random chracters and it returned me back to the home page. I think its a password of some kind. Not a tractors web site.
