I've seen these and they look pretty nice. I am thinking of modifying the PHD I have to accomplish the same thing. The PHD I have has a 3' control bar off the gear box to allow applying pressure and controlling the auger. I would prefer to not have anyone holding onto the unit.

from the Bush Hog website: " Optional Down Pressure Kit provides additional 550 pounds of digging force" That's more than I can push down!!! Does anyone know how much $$ this option is?

I don't know about price, but if it is more than about $100 it's too much. It is just a small cylinder with a couple of brackets to expand the joint between two moving parts, creating the down force. The cylinder looks remarkably like the ones used to lift the snowplow on a pickup truck, I know from experience they are $50 retail.

Best of luck.

I will have to look that one up but I know a 2" x 8" Prince 2,500 psi "Implement cyclinder" is regularly $62 and is in a sale flyer this week for $54 at the farm supply place nearby.

The snowplow cylinders are less than that because they are only 2,000 psi plain end cylinders.

Best of luck.

You can also check Northerntool and Surpluscenter. They both have a good variety of welded and tie rod cylinders for reasonable prices. Clevis ends will be the most commen.
