 howse rotary mower

hello all, there is a implement place very close to me that has howse rotary mowers on sale. there price on a 5ft 40hp gearbox is 440.00 but if you bring there ad in from the newspaper they will give you another 10% off! =396.00!(+tax 6%). so do you thing its worth it or should i spend 175.00+ for a kingkutter or other brand. it will be used at first on some pretty rough stuff 1-2 inch but after that first cut it would be "probably" used on pasture grass.

A lot of people say that Howse equipment is cheap and not worth having. However, I have a Howse 6' rotary cutter on my JD 950 that I have mowed 4'-6' tall grass and weeds and small saplings and brush and does a great job. I have no complaints with mine.

You get what you pay for with Howse brush cutters. 2" material will destroy it. My friend bought one and the deck was totally bent up after hitting a rock. Pay about $750 and get a Bushog SQ model - at a minimum. It will do 2" material without much damage, but doesn't sound too good in the process.

Mark, I've had a Bush Hog 4' SQ model in the past, and I now have a 5' Howse. I'm satisfied with my Howse because it's all I need now, but it certainly is not the quality of a Bush Hog (of course not nearly as expensive to buy either). I'd say if you only have 1" stuff to cut, go for the Howse; 2" better spend the money for the Bush Hog.
