Problems replacing fuel filter on MF 231S

We replaced the fuel filter on a Massey 231S tonight and according to the users manual we have to make sure there is no air in the fuel system. We followed the directions but never heard any air expel. Has anyone had issues with this?

Problems replacing fuel filter on MF 231S

On my old Ford, occasionally I'll hear a small hiss when bleeding the pump but not the fuel bowl. Air just bubbles out the bleed ports on the bowl.

The test if the lines are adequately bled is if the tractor runs. If it runs, the lines are adequately bled. The pump can clear small amounts of air. If it runs while missing for a few seconds at a time and won't take throttle, then there's still air in the lines.

If air gets past the pump into the injector lines, which usually happens only if a tractor runs out of fuel, then bleeding the fuel lines won't work. The injector lines must be bled. A manual should give a procedure for bleeding injector lines and should contain cautions about loosening injector fittings. They can contain around 2,000 lbs. even when the engine isn't running. That's enough pressure to inject fuel beneath the skin, a condition for which the cure may be amputation.
