 Power steering unit

Does anyone know of a manufacturer who makes a generic power steering unit for compact tractors?

James I have never seen a paper come across my desk for what you asked for. Years ago there where kits from the manufacturers for specific tractors but none as a generic fit all. Now many years before that char-lin made them for older US built tractors such as Farmall M's and such but you cannot buy those today.

James, I've never seen one. This is a shame, since there seems to be a real market for the simple hydraulic ram style with a sensor for steering pressure. This type of power steering was standard for years on Ford and Chevy cars, Corvettes, and several other US makes. You could also buy the ram and sensor to fit just about every tractor built in the 60s and 70s. Perhaps one of those could be adapted. To give you a head start on the project, JD used the same type of power steering on their 650,750,850,950,and 1050. JD still sells the PS conversion kits. The kit has everything you need add power steering to one of these tractors for about $900. To my eye it looks like these units could be made to fit other tractors as well... with the obligatory welding and bracketry. And if you happen to own one of those JD tractors and think you ight ever want to add power steering I'd be grabbing one of those kits while they are still made. The price is pretty good.

IThere is a manufacturer who made most of the power asist setup which went inline on the control arm and is actiavted by a load sensing valve on the steeering cylinder. I believe they make it for almost any application. I know Ford, Kubota, MF/Duetz/AC, and others used it. I'll look on one of the machines I have in inventory to get the info on it. Jim

I have a generic power steering kit available for compact tractors. It contains (cylinder, sensing valve , proportioning valve, & a couple
machined pieces that are
required & basic instructions. It requires some fabrication since it is a generic kit. I can supply hoses or they can be obtained locally. For more information contact me at sheaftractor@coiinc.com or 815-284-3226.
