 Hydraulic Stuff, lessons learned.

Things I have learned when fixing up my new to me tractor.
If you put a selector valve to add a circuit in the hydraulics, add a relief valve before the selector valve.
If something happens and everything is blocked, the fluid has somewhere to go besides blowing a line or striping the gears.

Milky Hydraulic or transmission oil may not always be water.
After changing oil several times, had milky oil again.
Not wanting to spend another $67, I drained some oil into a glass jar, put the lid on and marked the top of the oil with a sharpie.
Put on shelf. Went to work the next day. After sitting for 36 hours, the oil was clear, but level had dropped almost half an inch. Had air in the oil.
Turns out that the suction joint hose that showed no sign of leaking, had a pin hole on top.
The pipe had a burr and sharp edge, I smoothed out.
For 1 1/8 suction hose, could not find anywhere, got a foot of Fuel transfer hose from O'Reilly's.

Anyone else have lessons learned?

 Hydraulic Stuff, lessons learned.

Best trick I learned ( trying to fix a mystery valve) was to blow air in the out end to figure out where the hydraulic channels actually went. Once that was done ( and all the diagrams were proven wrong ) everything became easy.
