 bellymower gearbox oil change

Being modestly compulsive about maintance, I want to change the gearbox oil on my 914A NewHolland belly mower. The manual says "Drain, flush, and change at 200 hour intervals", but I can't figure out the "drain" part. Am I overlooking a drain plug on the bottom some place or does one just open the side filler plug and tip the mower over? Help would be gratefully appreciated to guide my efforts..Thanks.

No, in most cases there is not a drain plug on the bottom. We find the easiest way to do it is to remove the gearbox entirely from the unit, drain and re-fill, then coat all threads with an 'anti-seize' compound (like Lock-Tite 707) then re-assemble the unit. Since the blades usually need to be sharpened now anyways, may as well do it all in one shot, besides the anti-seize really makes a difference if you need to remove the blades mid-season for repair or sharpening. Best of luck.
