JD 47/48 Back Hoe Stabilizer Question

I have a JD 4400 HST with 430 loader and 47 hoe. My question is regarding the hoe's stabilizer 'feet'. I find in the JD manual, you can buy optional pads for use on blacktop surface, etc. However, all of my digging will be in dirt. With the 'feet' in the 'as delivered' position, 'grip' in dirt appears to be marginal. I have also read about reversing them. They look more substantial for dirt when reversed but the pin hole is quite a bit off center, Has anyone had experience with this. I have considered adding 'teeth' like from angle iron pieces bolted thru the existing bolt holes for the optional 'driveway pads'. Thanks in advance, Bob

Not sure I understand the problem you are having...I have a 48 and it works great. What do you mean by grip?

JD 47/48 Back Hoe Stabilizer Question

I have a 47 backhoe. I reverse the feet all the time. It gets better grip in soft material. You should have bought a 48 for that size tractor.

JD 47/48 Back Hoe Stabilizer Question

BS, I'm interested in buying the 4400HST with the 47 backhoe as well. I'd like the 48 except for the added cost...I'm not sure my needs would justify it. Are you satisfied with the 47? Do you find you wished you had the 48? Thanks

JD 47/48 Back Hoe Stabilizer Question

Ok, I have learned to simply 'flip' the stabilizer feet - thay work fine in dirt. I am very disappointed in the John Deere manuals for many reasons-simple stuff like this would be nice to see in a manual. Actually more imporatnt to me than including the spanish version !Regarding 47 hoe vs 48, I pondered the choice quite awhile. I decided to buy the 47 - so far at least I have no regrets. It digs all that I want.

I have a 4500 with the 48 hoe.At times the hoe will pull the machine around, but this can be avoided by keeping more weight in the bucket to keep the legs on the ground.I don't flip the pads and I get along fine.Weld all you want on the bottom but remember that the hoe WILL pull your tractor around and it is better to have it so than to have it anchored so something else will break.Even larger machines get this so don't worry.
