Three Point Hitch Mounted Backhoes - Safety

Thanks for bringing this to our attention Steve. You probably would have received more responses but none of us wants to believe that it could happen to me! I hope more people read and respond to this message.

Three Point Hitch Mounted Backhoes - Safety

Thanks for taking the time to write this, Steve. I am sure that itwas a difficult message to write. I use a 3-pt backhoe and sure wassurprised one day when the 3-pt "draft" mode kicked in as I was usingthe bucket to push against a rock. Just like a flash, the lift arms jumped a few inches. When the arms came up against the preventer, theresulting forces encouraged the draft compensation to re-engage the hydraulics and lift the arms a few more inches....now the preventer isbending (I had the backhoe on my big Ag JD) and I hear the darn draftcontrol re-engaging for another lift!! At this point metal is startingto groan and it has only been a few seconds since the whole cycle started.Frankly, I bailed off of the backhoe seat and ran. Eventually the hydraulicload got so heavy that the engine stalled. Lucky for me I was working withthe engine at an idle. If it had been at full power the damage would havebeen worse as well as happening quicker. Roger

Three Point Hitch Mounted Backhoes - Safety

I have read with interest and concern this safety warning. I am currently in the process of building a CADdigger model 808 3 pt mount backhoe for my JD 1070 tractor. I would like to know about the "hitch locking device" for this type of tractor and what it consist of. Any help would be appreciated.
