Great Bend 652 vs JD 7 backhoe

Have almost purchased a JD790 and still making up my mind on the backhoe to use with it. Would be just occasional use and not real heavy work. The 790 shows Hydraulic volume of 4-5 GPM and that matches both the Great Bend 652 and JD's 7 backhoe fine. I do see, however, that the 652 shows a hydraulic pressure requirement of 2250 psi. The 790 provides 2050 psi. I can't even find the requirement in the specs for the 7 Backhoe but assume it must match to the 790. I can save a grand on the Great Bend over JD. Any opinions if it's gonna operate decently or is the psi going to make it less than desirable?

Also, because of my probable infrequent use of the backhoe, I've been thinking of just going with the 3pt hookup instead of the submount, for easier removal, etc. All thoughts, comments, jeers, suggestions appreciated.

Great Bend 652 vs JD 7 backhoe

A 6' 3ph hoe from tractor hydraulics has worked just fine for me over almost 4 years. My needs are occasional and not particularly heavy. The hoe isn't especially powerful for the tractor and I just keep in mind reminding myself that I could be stretching the case bolts etc. These reminders probably keep me from getting too ambitious with the hoe and keep demands within what is reasonable for the tractor.

However, my hydraulic pump is rated just under 8-gpm and the system pressure is about 1900 lbs.. Lifting full buckets out of deep trenches does take more time than I'd like, and I'm not sure what the performance of a 6' hoe (for example) would be like from a less than 5-gpm pump. By the same token, I canít compare the volumetric efficiency of a new 5 gpm pump to my pump of a different manufacture that has 650 hours on it. The 790ís pump amd mine might pump similar volumes at higher pressures. The 652's pressure rating may be an operating value at which the hoe should meet its power specs. Many hoe specs state a range of operating pressures. Anyway, 200 lbs. should make much difference.

Same backhoe made by Amerequip -- see Amerequip's website and decided for yourself. If you check at the bottom of their "Company profile" page, you will see their OEM customers are JD, Bush Hog, and Great Bend.

I run a #7 on an 855, with about the same flow. Runs fine by my expectations. I would suggest a sub-frame is desireable, but not mandatory if you take into account the concerns listed by TomG. The Subframe #7 hoe takes less than 5 minutes to install / remove and is certainly easier to install than my 3pt bush-hog which always seems to need to be pried into place, so don't go 3pt just for installation ease.

The #7 relief valve operates about 1750 lbs (don't have my specs with me, but it is slightly lower than the relief pressure on the tractor) the actual value is published in the Grounds Care Equipment guide. [Something that any technical minded tractor lover should pick up just for drooling purposes - has every current grounds care piece of equipment Deere makes AND all the specs]

If your hoe is speced for a greater pressure, it just means that the tractor relief valve will open first, and your lift capacities will be slightly reduced. (And your hoe better protected)

You might want to check out the Mazzotti MAF 200 backhoe which comes with its own pump and tank and it is very cost effective compared to other units even with freight and they are very well made, not trying toi plug the units, just thought Id inform you about them before you make your deshion
