I have a Shibaura 1843 model and I need to replace the hydraulic/transmission oil. Is Amsoil synthetic ok to use or should I use something else?
Thanks
Dave

I don't want to stir up the Amzoil cheer leaders again, it might be OK, but why not just use what your owners manual calls for. By using the fluid, filters and changeing it regularly as your owners manual calls for most of us here won't live long enough to see the trannys wear out in our tractors. Frank.

What to do when new products come along that didn't exist when the specifications were written? For instance, for engine oil, my manuals predate multigrades.

Try to access the manual for your model for the fluid specs, then see if the label says it meets them, or email the maker with that question.

Synthetics can cost double. They offer advantages you'd possibly want in an engine oil, but I'm not sure what plusses they'd bring to hyd fluid.

Davedogfish,

Here's one of many possibilities available to you. Many of my neighbors use this in their tractors. It's great for year-round use.....hot or cold temps.

Cenex Brand QWIKLIFT HTB

(HTB stands for Hydraulics, Transmission, Brakes) This is a high quality hydraulic fluid for use in tractors that utilize a common sump to power and lube the transmission, hydrostatic drives, power steering, brakes, etc.

See the link below. You can read all about it.
